The National Arboretum is an awesome spot if you're in DC! My favorite area is around the Asian Collections which start atop the largest hill in the park but wind and dip down towards the Anacostia river. There are several trails scattered throughout the Arboretum but trails aren't needed to wander across all the fields and through all the trees. Some small hills but mostly an easy time. Also a great spot to jog, long board, or bike through.

Honestly, the columns are the highlight but I do enjoy the walk around! Highly recommend checking out the bonsai trees

There is an over abundance of parking throughout the arboretum—if you enter through the New York Avenue entrance. The asphalt paths are approximately ten-feet wide. They more than accommodate the bikers, hikers, dog walkers and mothers pushing their children in carriages. The trail is a three-mile loop with many adjoining soft dirt paths (all of which are now closed due to Covid-19). The arboretum is gorgeous ... replete with fresh herb gardens, bonsai shrubs, Roman columns and majestic trees that house bald eagles. Yes, you can also bird watch there. This place is truly one of DC’s hidden treasures.

My favorite place! Very hilly and a good challenge in several spots. Beautiful trees and flowers all four seasons. Trails near the eagles nest and across from the columns. I’ve seen eagles, hawks, fox, deer, ground hog many other birds. You can put in four miles by walking the perimeter. Capital bikes available on the R St. main entrance. The visitors center is very nice with very clean bathrooms, and live stream of the eagles nest! Not sure who wouldn’t appreciate this beautiful place.

I take my dog here for a nice walk all the time. I live in the city so it’s a nice little trail to walk on the weekend. Easy walk and cool views looking back into DC from the island.

Another poorly marked trail brought to you by the national Park service. Cannot identify the trails anywhere.
