Mount Vernon Trail is a 14.2 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Washington, District of Columbia that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

well marked, paved trail with some nice views of D.C. Plenty of options along the trail for detours (e.g. Four Mile Run). Good for running/biking/walkers. Minor elevation changes make this a good trail for beginners. Use regular trainers/sneakers on this route.

Rode the trail, but started from home in Hyattsville, MD through DC and on the way to Jones Point Park. Nice trail, but can become very crowded, as others have stated.

Biked this - fairly level, a few dips and rises here and there, but nothing horribly challenging. Just crowded as all get-out, especially as the weekend morning passed about 9 am-- and just got worse from there...So I would say go on a weekday or early morning, or just deal with the crowds.
Lots of water available at either end and in the middle at one of the rest stops.
