An outdoor getaway in DC's backyard that's easy to overlook. Treat yourself to gorgeous views of Kingman Lake, its wetlands, and the flora and fauna that call it home. The park features rustic boardwalks and a floating dock for canoes and kayaks, which can circle both islands during high tide. The Heritage Island trail meanders through a wooded path that traces the island's perimeter and provides sweeping views of Kingman Lake and RFK stadium. Depending on the season, portions of the trail can be muddy or overgrown. The Kingman Island trail similarly offers views of Kingman Lake and the connecting boardwalks, but then follows an access trail through the woods. This wooded section is a little less eventful than the rest of the park.
