This hike features river views, a waterfall, wildflowers, and ruins. Visitors have flocked to Scott's Run for years to witness the spring wildflowers that grow there. Sources say that trail-ing arbutus, Virginia bluebells and trillium blooming on the steep hillsides create a small oasis of rare and fragile plants. Remarkable and rare species grow along the precipitous cliffs, in steep valleys and throughout the mature hardwood forest of very large oak and beech trees, ancient hemlock and wild cherry trees that stand as tall as the oaks. Scotts Run Nature Preserve consists of a rather hilly, wildflower-riddled tract of riverside woodlands scarcely 4 crow-miles northwest of Washington. For songbirds and other wildlife, it's a true sanctuary.

Overall it’s a easy hike, however you can find a way to make it a lot harder, you can along the easy hike but you will be able to find trails that can lead you to rocky hikes and also can lead you to a small waterfall. Nice trail.

This is a great hour and 15 min hike if you go the right way. We’ve don’t both forward and backward and if you want a harder workout cross over Georgetown pike last. Managed to do the trail with a BOB stroller with the help of a friend but won’t be doing that again. Backpacked the little one before on this trail which was a great workout.

Great trail. A little muddy/ slick in some parts. Wear shoes with grippy soles. Download the all trails map to help keep you on the 2.5 mile loop. There are a lot of side trails.

Beautiful trail - Scenic overlooks, waterfalls, not challenging but can be slick and muddy - little hills in the terrain make it fun, areas to cross stream can be wet and slick - really enjoyed all the views!

Not sure why this says 2.5 miles... With a shortcut we managed to cut it down to 4.1. Went with two little kids but they were great regardless. There is one area of the trail that runs along a really steep drop so if you are headed there with little kids I would suggest you have a 1:1 ratio.

Beautiful trails, many options depending on what you're looking for. Easy to navigate, too. Take a picture of the trails map! Unfortunately, it's full of litter. Bring gloves, a large trash bag and hand sanitizer!

in places this is a great trail, in places it's overgrown, in places it's washed out rubble from the massive thunderstorms of late. even bigger problem is the number of flip flop users that show up to go selfie hunting at the falls and leave tons of trash and user created trails.
