Begin the hike at the Difficult Run Parking Lot and immediately cross over Georgetown Pike accessing the trailhead for 'Wolfpack Trail' (no signage, but clear path)...take 'Wolfpack' to 'Ridge Trail' (also no signage) turning right...[in a short while you will begin to see trail signage] follow 'Ridge Trail' to 'Difficult Run' which will take you back to the parking lot. There is a side out back spur shortly after you turn onto 'Difficult Run' that takes you to where Difficult Run River and the Potomac River meet.

If you love the scent of honey suckles then this is the trail for you. I recommend arriving early if you want to find parking. The water streams and scenery is beautiful. Saw two snakes sunbathing on top of rocks and enjoyed the shady breeze of the morning hike before it got too hot. Loved that there were optional routes for you to take if one side got too muddy.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL trail. Places you can go down on the water. I saw a few ladies sunbathing. Highly recommend this trail

This is an AMAZING hike!! Definitely better to walk in to Great Falls than to attempt parking there any day of the week! We got a little lost and ended up on a rock scramble basically in the Potomac but nothing turning back around and retracing our steps didn't fix. Highly recommend!

Nice easy or moderate hike depending on whether you take off on side trails or strictly stick to the loop. We made it a 5.5 mile loop by following the River Trail and Matildaville Trail along the river to Great Falls Observation Point them back along the Carriage Road.

Very nice trail with good views of a scenic creek that dumps into the Potomac. Perfect for a hike with an energetic puppy.

Pleasant walk that can get crowded when it’s nice out.

Went at 9am on a Sunday morning, parking lot was already pretty full. Not too much elevation change. Gets real muddy after a big rain.
