I absolutely love this trail. It’s one of my favorites. Beautifully paved, shaded, and surreal views of streams.

Very well paved and marked trail. A lot of traffic on this popular trail. Highly recommend. Note: I think it’s best to start in Purcellville because I started in Shirlington and it was mostly uphill and in the wind. Much more pleasant ride if started in the opposite direction in my opinion. Also the detour was a bit confusing. All I know is somehow I ended up on East Columbus Street which turns to West Columbus Street which takes you to Little Falls Street to return to trail. (I went like 5 miles off track during this detour)

The first 8 miles of the trail is garbage. Construction, detours, terrible.

Weekends and rush hour this is a heavily trafficked paved trail. There is a horse trail beside it that is nicer for hiking. Trail is used by bike commuters, cycling groups, runners, all training for various races. It has lots of amenities and is beautiful.

Nice trail to have in this area but the description of "lightly trafficked" is mistaken, at least in the Falls Church area of the trail. It's actually heavily used, particularly on weekends, and during the week many of the bicyclists are commuters, so you need to keep to the right and keep your wits about you if you are running on the trail.

Not a bad walk. I went roughly four miles with my dog on a Saturday morning. Very few trash cans for waste bags, little to no shade, and mostly bikers. I probably won’t take my dog on this one again, but it wasn’t a bad morning.

Smaller segment of the 45-mile W&OD Trail. This is a pretty good stretch w/o too many stops. Fair amount of traffic.

I bike this all the time. Relatively level and sporadic stops in some areas, so you can build momentum and speed. Pretty well trafficked.
