I would consider this easy not moderate. Beautiful view along the river several nice places to stop for a lunch. Good hike for kids and pets.

Rode the intermediate/yellow trail. Trails clearly marked but needed some TLC for the fallen trees and overgrown vegetation in some areas. Lots of roots but it was a fun ride. Didn't have time to check out rest of park but will definitely be back to do that.

VA Explore Park is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 115. It includes 1200 acres and lots of trail options with very nice facilities and a Parkway Visitor Center. I completed a section of the Old Salem Turnpike Trail, which loops around an historic area and follows along the Roanoke River for a short distance. I enjoyed exploring the old buildings.

The entrance to the Virginia Explore Park is located at MP 114.9 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are numerous trails inside the park. Stop in the Visitor Center and ask for a trail map. We hiked the Old Salem Turnpike Trail (red blaze) and took some time to look at the historic buildings.

Explore Park is conveniently located on the parkway just outside of Roanoke. There are multiple trail options for hiking and mountain biking but nothing extreme. The park gives great access to Roanoke River for kayaking or jus to bring the dog/kids to splash around. Nice local park, not a destination hike/park.
