Lots of parking
Nice trail, but not as rewarding as some. Though long, the trail visually looks like an easy ride. However, the sandy base turns this path into a deceptively moderate level ride. We parked at the mid-way point at Evans Creek Trailhead. The ride was quiet and very peace with rest areas and even toilets along the way. About four miles in cycling toward Lawrenceville, pedal resistance and monotony of a flat straight route, made us turn back to cycle the Brodnax to the west. Sadly that direction mirrored the same conditions as the first. Scenery created a real feeling of what must be been like to travel the rail around late 1800's and after.
We went on Election Day and it was amazing. Much better than watching cable news all day. The trail is well kept with plenty of restrooms and picnic tables along the way. The first 5 or 6 miles of paved trail is mostly downhill and really easy. It turns to hard packed gravel and flattens out for a few miles, and then turns slightly uphill for a few miles. The younger kids, ~10 years old, slowed down on this portion, but they made it. Overall it's about a 250 drop in elevation going from La Crosse to Lawrenceville, so for a one-way trip this is perfect. We had two cars so we parked one at each end, and then transported back and forth a couple of times to get all the bikes loaded up. It's about a 20 minute drive between La Crosse and Lawrenceville. No ride sharing available, so this was the best option for us. We only saw a few people on the trail. It was a great day trip, and we will definitely do it again.
Nice trail, we did a piece of it from the regional airport road heading east for a couple of miles. Actually goes along a street road for a section, so seems more fun on a bike than on foot. And since it was a hot day, we were eager to find more shade than we could in that section. First part was paved, then the actually street road, and then we went in to a soft trail. It was lovely; our only problem was ticks!
This is a really nice well taken care of trail that is not hard at all. It’s longer than normal trails but not hard whatsoever.
This trail was fun to ride because it was empty. Started in La Crosse and cycled to Lawrenceville in 90 minutes or so. There's a gas station there if you need some food. Lawrenceville part of trail (last mile or two) is a bit run down and not much to see. Cycled back to La Crosse the way I came. Didn't see anyone on the trail in over 3 hours which is a welcome change from the busy trails near Raleigh. Several rest rooms along the way - very well kept for such a quiet trail. Was riding 2 inch tires which had no problems with some of the softer conditions (of which there were only a few).
