We tried to visit yesterday midday and the parking lot is closed. Also, two police cars were stationed in front of the parking lot.

Good leg stretcher and nice place to stop for good coffee.

Probably my favorite park in Richmond! There is a large hill to go down from the parking lot (which means you will inevitably have to go back up) and an old bridge that takes you over the train tracks and down the stairs to the park. Beautiful murals painted by the VCU art students adorn the stairwell. The trail goes through beautiful forest and leads you by the river shore which gives many great opportunities for swimming. There are several islands you can explore, and ruins of a historic building further down. This is definitely a trail for daytime hikers, as some of the people who live in the houses next to the parking lot have taken it upon themselves to yell at and chase after anybody who tries to enter through the main parking lot after dark. I would highly recommend taking side trails to explore the hidden treasure this park has to offer!

Easy hike and scenic along the river. Some great swimming holes too. I prefer to avoid this during the summer busy months to so I don’t have to deal with the annoying hipster millennial kids who could care less about properly throwing away their PBR cans.

fun for swims and parties apparently, hiking is nice for the most part, family parts and 'other' parts too. if you get far enough down the trail there is some peace and quiet, eventually, look out for naked bums tho. seriously, men have been seen 'bathing' here.

Nice scenery, but this place is very isolated. I wouldn't advise going here alone. There are a lot of schetchy people along this trail.

Really nice trail - but couldn’t follow it at one point. I was apparently on the trail - but felt like I had to walk on railroad tracks or in a river.

no place to park safely. Parking area listed is on the shady side at best.

This trail is probably best used during the week. The parking lot was closed so street parking only which is scarce. Trails are small and people don’t share or yield the trail well. Lots of dog waste from people not picking up after their pets. Several dogs not on leashes which were not friendly to us nor our dogs. I think we won’t go back any time soon.

Definitely a great trail, beautiful views. The end of the trail gets pretty narrow, but other than that, no complaints. Bug spray needed.

Shaded for the most part. Narrow in spots. Plenty of places to stop and watch the James go by. Mostly flat except for the stairs by the parking area. Lots to see along the way.

One of my favorite trails along the James! Plenty of nooks along the trail to set up and swim for the day, with trees and some distance between each spot that gives a sense of privacy. The trail itself offers beautiful up-close views of the river. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Richmond.

Easy trail to walk with kids, dogs and my wife who has a disability with her heel and ankle. We parked at the parking area which the route was well marked with brown signs coming from the Boulevard. We walked to the part where the concrete channel is. Overall we covered about 1.3 miles there and back. Lots of places to get in the river.

Great views of the river.

beautiful, pretty clean, loved the area! wish we had been warned about the old, fat, naked guy that is apparently a staple on the rocks under a bridge.
