Beautiful hike along all of the waterfalls. We thought they ended, but as we kept walking we realized there were more! There were some steep parts along the gorge, but overall the hike was easy-moderate. Would recommend if you have time and don't see waterfalls often!

A ranger advised us to start by going to the left and we were happy we did because after passing the beautiful waterfall, we easily had excellent views of the river and all of its smaller falls. If you go in the opposite direction, you would constantly be turning back toward the river to see those features. The terrain was definitely rocky in several areas. We hiked it on a Friday afternoon and encountered other people often, but also had stretches where we were alone on the trail. We completed the trail in 3 hours, as we stopped frequently along the river to take photos.

Some parts of the trailer extremely tough and difficult. it's more than made up for when you see the streams and waterfalls. has a couple good spots for overnight camping.

This trail is one of my favorites so far! It was great! We started from the left side which wasn’t bad at all and we saw a black bear. The waterfalls and waterholes are great and we stop and ate lunch at one and I went in to a waterhole with my dog. It was shady and cool for the most part. Starting left was the right thing to do since it was easier in the end. We definitely want to do this one again and go in some of the waterholes. It took us about two and a half hours with our dog and was a little less than five miles! A nice hike for us!

Started straight and the elevation towards the end wasn't too bad. Definitely seemed easier than if we had started from the left. There are falls on either side but the bigger one is closer if you start at the left. My dog loved the water! And the trail was good for him because it was shaded the whole time. Took us about 3 hours to finish as we kept stopping so my boyfriend could flyfish. He caught about 6 brook trouts (catch & release) in different pools. Th trail wasn't overcrowded but you won't be alone. We saw a black bear towards the end so be aware!

This trail is a family favorite! Plenty of shade and many places along the trail to stop and enjoy the waterfalls. We went clockwise, finishing by coming up the fire road the last mile. That made it an “easy” walk out after hiking rocks and hilly terrain most of the trail. We spent 3.5 hours on the trail, but that was with many stops along the way to enjoy the water. It could be done in much less time without stops.

Great trail! We started around 8:15am and finished in just under 2 hours. We went to the right (counterclockwise) and felt that was a rigorous ending. Met people about halfway, but didn’t feel crowded at all. Recommend bug spray.

A really fun, shorter hike. Day was clear and not too hot. Perfect weather. Went blue blaze to yellow. Finished in 2.5 hours. Some swimming holes. Steeper after passing falls heading back up to yellow blaze fire road. Well maintained. Lots of mosquitos by the water and mud but to be expected. Would recommend on a clear dry day.

Probably the best trail in the park next to old rag. Waterfalls, swimming spots, it was just beautiful.

My family of 4 (kids 12 & 10) plus a dog really enjoyed this trail. An advice, start it by going to the left, it then will be very easy to complete the last 0.8 of a mile.

A great and beautiful trail. Lots of places to stop and dip your feet in the water. Steady decline down the horse trail in the beginning and then levels out by the cascades. Hike back up was shirt bursts of steep incline with breaks of flatness, a great trail for a good workout. Totally doable, saw lots of kids and dogs. Once you return to the fire road, look for the Cave cemetary on the left hand side. Some ancient grave sites worth seeing. We did it in about 2 hours flat.

Beautiful day and fun hike. Enjoyed hearing the water sounds through out. Glad we decided against bringing our lab- not sure he would have enjoyed the rock scrambles.

Beautiful day, 65 and windy. We did the clockwise loop and it was awesome! Took our 2 dogs and they loved it as well. We parked at the Fishers Gap Overlook lot and were concerned at first because it was almost full, thankfully the trail was not crowded. Beautiful views all along the river, my wife was getting annoyed how often I wanted to stop and take pictures. We planned to do the Dark Hollow Falls addition but pets are not allowed on that portion. We will still got a great view of that fall from the fire road, nonetheless. Would recommend and we will be back. Next time we plan to go when it’s warmer so we can swim.

Loved this trail! I would rate it as moderate to difficult. Lots of rocks to hike over/through. I wouldn’t bring small children on this trail due to the rocks/large ascension at the end. I highly recommend hiking boots or waterproof shoes. Definitely will be doing it again in the future!

Beautiful trail along two mountain streams. Make to take the extra few minutes to hike to where the two streams at the bottom meet! It’s very peace and a nice place to sit and grab a snack.

Shenandoah boasts so many great waterfall hikes, and Rose River is another dandy. Not overly strenuous, but your blood will get pumping going back uphill. Several great spots to get right by the river and enjoy the series of small falls, with a few medium(ish) ones thrown in!

Be careful not to get lulled into this being super easy on your way down. This one was quite tough on a near constant incline on the way back. Falls were nice and pretty.

Logged 5.5 miles on this hike which included hiking to the top of Dark Hollow Falls and exploring around the Rose River Falls. Nice little loop!

Hiked on Thanksgiving. Following the cascading Rose River might be one of my favorite hikes ever!
