Lovely walk. We started outside Big Meadows because it was closed; found trail head easily. The path down Lewis Falls is pretty rocky, but not difficult. Enjoyed the AT trail portion, took the Rose River fire road down to the falls, and then traveled up to Skyline Drive where we walked along the roadway on the east side to return to the car. 7.05 miles round trip.

It was a gorgeous hike with waterfall after waterfall. Today was sunny, cold and windy, I was grateful for my windbreaker coat, gloves and hat. The trail got a little confusing where to pick it back up after the visitor center because I was reading the hiking upward map, but if I’d been following the AllTrails map, I would be less confused since it’s spot on. The overlook for Lewis spring falls is a dead end, so remember to retrace your steps to get back on the trail, since this was not obvious. The last 1.5 miles were all up hill, very challenging but worth it. This hike would be great on a hot summer day so you can take a break and dip your feet into the many waterfall pools.

This was a great time. We modified it a bit and started from the visitor center at the fueling area and actually passed the campground and stayed on the AT until the split for Lewis Falls. Those falls were a little less climatic then the others, but a high view. The Lewis falls trail requires some scrambling and we saw some folks that were in deeper then their physical ability. This falls trails are rated moderate, but closer to hard. The climb up is steep and a bit tiresome after 8 miles or so. All in all a nice workout with great things to see. I recommend counterclockwise from the Big Meadows waypoint and return. You can cut the AT back to big meadows and skip the Lewis Falls trail and it will help you avoid cutting through the campground. We will do this again. About 6hr and 10 miles with our frolicking.

Great trail for an afternoon hike. Elevations are a little difficult so be prepared for that. Lots to see; beautiful waterfalls. Make sure to wear hiking shoes or boots because the trails are muddy and slightly slippery. Areas where there's a lot of loose little rocks. Overall really happy with the hike.

Overall very nice hike along river mostly. Plenty of good places to camp along river on eastern part of hike. Waterfalls were great. Lewis spring was suspect as a water source.

Parked at Fishers Gap and completed Rose River & Dark Hollow Falls. Skipped Lewis Spring Falls as I'd done it before, and hiked the AT to Blackrock in order to add in a view. Well worth skipping Lewis Falls as the views of the fog blanket over the valley would've been missed othwise. My tracking app clocked the total route at 8.5 miles

Great three falls hike. Completed this counter clockwise in early December. The drop and ascent to Lewis Falls will quickly get you heart rate up. Once you hit the trail head at Dark Hollow you will have over two miles of continuous cascades. At the base of Dark Hollow you can opt out of Rose River if your are short on time and return via the fire road and AT. If you continue down Hog camp branch you will be treated to a wonderful .8 miles of cascades and pools finally meeting up with Rose River as you tunr for the 3 mile ascent out. The first part of the ascent is along the river with great views and Rose River Falls. The last leg along the AT has some nice views this time of year without the tree cover. If the leaves were out there would not be much of a view.

Rose River Falls is one of the most beautiful trails in Virginia! I would rate it as Moderately Difficult due to the rocks and streams especially when cold and icy. The Falls are actually a series of falls and are really beautiful.

Great hike, left Big Meadows and hiked counterclockwise to Lewis Falls first. A little confusing near the entrance to Big Meadows. Hike really is over 9 Miles.
