NOTICE: THE LAKEVIEW TRAIL IS A SINGLE TRACK MOUNTAIN BIKE ONLY TRAIL Please note that the Lakeview Loop portion of this trail is only for mountain bikers and foot traffic is not permitted. The Powhatan trail is open to foot traffic. Just 20 miles from downtown Richmond, the capital of Virginia, Pocahontas State Park has been one of the more popular parks in the state park system. Swift Creek forms the nucleus of the park, which is centered in a wildlife management area.Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), this was the first recreational park in the Richmond-Petersburg-Hopewell area. The National Park Service donated the facility to Virginia State Parks in 1946, making it the largest Virginia state parks with more than 7,600 acres and two small lakes. The area was renamed Pocahontas State Park and Pocahontas State Forest and was operated under a cooperative management arrangement with the Department of Forestry. In 1989 a new master plan, funded jointly by the Commonwealth of Virginia and Chesterfield County, called for expansion of park facilities to accommodate the large urban population surrounding the park.

Moderate Hike. Bring plenty of fluids for this hike. Most of hike is under the trees. A few bridges were out but there were routes around them. Dogs can be walked throughout the park as long as you have a leash and you pick up after them. It is a "Leave-No-Trace" trail, so if you take something please pack it out with you. We were bummed that Lakeview Loop II was closed and very well marked off. Other than that we enjoyed the hike.

Had a wonderful time on the trail with my daughter today. I wish this trail would remind folks that a good portion of the loop is “bike only”. We went early and only saw two bikers thankfully. There are parts that have been closed as well.

Beautiful hike and hardly saw any other people. Bring a compass and you will be fine.

Not marked well. Was lucky to make it back to my car. Ended up on a biker only trail due to poor signage. I went back and forth to try to figure out where I “missed” a marker...there wasn’t one. Other than being lost, beautiful trail. Scary though I only saw one biker then entire 9 mile run. No other hikers, runners, or bikers.

Trails are well groomed however trail markings are weak, excellent in some places and nonexistent in others.

Horseback riding

The worse place for trail ridding with your horse unless you running a track. the trails goes around the outteer edge towards the field with the sun bright and if it's a hot day, you'll suffer the heat The bitting flies was awful. Will NOT be returning to this unbarebly boaring trail again.

Nice 7 miles hike. Even thought there aren’t a lot of views, we saw deers, frogs and birds. Nice for a morning hike!

My son (11) and I enjoyed this trail. We got a little mixed up and ended up on the bike only bit (Lake View Loop) but gutted it out until we regained the hiking trail. We clocked in a little over 7 miles total in 3 hours with a pause for lunch in there at the halfway mark. Definitely will come back and maybe bring the bike out!

Lakeview is a bike trail, so if you start on Powhatan Trail walking you have to turn back at the Lakeview Loop.

I saw dark star orchestra here and they allowed the group to camp for two days. It was so much fun. I hope to do it again!

Hiked the Beaver Lake Trail today (a little under 3 miles) and it was a great little hike for my 7 month pregnant self. Not too many hills or strenuous stretches and a clearly marked loop from the Nature Center.

Great hiking trail! Went on Bright Hope trail, which was about 5 miles. Super fun and clearly marked. Went on a Sunday at 12 and ran into 3 runners, 5 bikers, and 7 horseback riders. Would definitely recommend this trail!!

We did the beaver lake trail about 2 miles with an all terrain stroller. Super nice but next time I will definitely wear the baby in a carrier.
