I’m a beginner but thought I could go past cotin bridge to a pond. When cotin bridge path ended it was very steep and narrow could not do with sneakers on. Not sure how much further the trail goes or how difficult it is but I had to turn around.

We started our hike at 8:20. It was cool and clear (not sunny yet). The trail was spacious and well-maintained. One portion of the trail was closed. A smaller trailing leading past the pond was not cleared well (and tall overgrowth made the trail disappear).

Easy trail. A few short sections will be a challenge for novice trail runners. This is a good choice for a recovery run. The creek presents a nice opportunity for a cool down dip at the end of your run. The trail is all single track with some sections of very narrow single track. Pleasant and flat with very few roots. Minimal elevation changes.

Nice trail-follow the light blue markers...note-path around Lansdowne Golf course in better shape than part of trail over by Goose Creek. Shaded for almost of it. Path needs a trim overgrown in some areas.

Nice easy trail to take the kids. We loved sitting on the rocks and watching people fish too. I will definitely go back.

Bike touring

-I did this trail on a bike. -The segment along goose creek is too rocky for biking at some parts. I think a more experienced biker could manage it, not me. There are also several water crossings. -The segment along the Potomac is easy. It’s flat, and the trees are cut back so the trail is wide. There’s minimal roots/rocks in the trail during that segment. If you were to do this on a bike I would start with the goose creek segment and then the Potomac, to maximize downhill.

This is a great trail, a bit more trafficked though, but carries great views. Path is narrow.

Enjoyed seeing patches of bluebells in bloom in early April. I always enjoy seeing the remnants of the old Goose Creek Canal, especially the old stone locks about 1/4 mile upstream from where Goose Creek meets the Potomac. https://www.loudounhistory.org/history/goose-creek-canal/

Great trail, there is some construction by the time you get to the 2nd park that takes away from the views, but all in all a lovely winding trail. It does send you onto the golf property a few times in the beginning but then you’re right back on the river and it’s no big deal. Oh and it features an absolutely beautiful pine section as well, give yourself a nice break there.

Very trashy trail. Really disgusting amount of garbage along trail. Someone should organize a cleanup. We were visiting the Lansdowne Resort and thought a walk along the river would be nice. Very sad.

Easy trail. Not a great deal of elevation change. went 3/14/19 on a nice day about 70 deg F. This out and back trail runs parallel to the Potomac River and then cuts up Goose Creek on one side, and a Greg Norman designed golf course on the other.. There were a few blow downs on the trail to navigate around and well as a sturdy, but somewhat off kilter bridge across a creek crossing. It looks like it lost one of it's supports, but is still solid. There are some huge Sycamore trees along the banks of the rivers, as well as other types. One of the Sycamore trees on the bank of the Potomac had a circumference of 16'+. According to https://www.cliftonparkopenspaces.org/treecalculator this would put the estimated age of the tree at about 245 yrs old (circa 1774). Geo Washington could have peed on it back in the day. The scenery was quite nice, even though still in winter mode. I think this will be a very pretty hike when the foliage comes back in the spring thru fall. This trail would be muddy if your hike is after a recent rain. Enjoy!

easy trail next to the Potomac River. I saw mushrooms, flowers, part of a historic canal, and a golf course. if there was a flaw to this easy trail it's that it's so close to the golf course.
