Did this trail in conjunction with Hot Short Mountain Trail to Nicholson Hollow Trail to Corbin Cabin Cutoff Trail to Skyline Drive ....and back.

The parking area off 681 is a bit creepy because there is this abandoned trailer and a lot of junk.....

The initial mile or two up Pine Hill Gap is a continual climb. No super steep but step enough to merit a f stops, even if in perfect condition. Trail evens out at the top. A bit after getting to the flat portion you'll pass a trail marker...abou .3mi from there is the marker for Hot Short. Hot Short starts out flat but quickly changes elevation....about as steep as Pine Hill, if not slightly more. You hit Nickholson at the bottom. Hang a right and follow that trail til Corbin Cabin. That part of the trail is easy and flat. There are a few stream crossings. The water was pretty low so crossing was uneventful....tho I can see issues after a big rain or in the Spring. The Corbin Cabin Cutoff to Skyline is a steady incline.

There was a group of hikers who had just arrived before me at the parking area. I was a few minutes behind them. Other than that Pine Hill to Short Mtn was pretty solitary and not too many folks. There were parts of both trails that seemed in need of some bush whacking. Passed quite a few groups along Nickohlson and Corbin.
