HikingGreat!

We walked this trail with our 5 and 7 year old. Pretty easy trail as it’s also used for mountain biking and it’s mostly gravel, wide, and well marked. It’s a beautiful forest with beautiful autumn colors. A few inclines but not too strenuous. We parked at the visitor center. Recommend the loop counter clockwise. At the end is a steep decline down at the lovely creek falls. A nice end to the walk.

This is a fairly nice trail. Very well marked, but lots of people and not too too interesting.

A great trail for running. A fire road would be a better description. That said, being a taxed Virginian and having to pay $8.00 to run for a couple hours in flat woods is not worth it.

This is one of the medium length trails at Pocohontas. As such there are several points where you can branch off onto other trails and make your journey longer or shorter. Per the park rangers, leashed dogs are allowed.

Walking

Walked this trail a thousand times without knowing its name. It's a personal favorite in an area without too many local loops. Logging road wide allows mostly side by side walking through the woods. Grade is up and down but gentle. Not crowded after leaving the dam area. Clockwise is best but both directions have their charms. Not a destination trail but one for reverie or fresh air.

Only downed one star purely for the fact I prefer more of a trail than a road when I hike. That being said, it was otherwise a nice hike. Plenty of area for my dog to get a drink from creeks & run off streams. Very peaceful & the few people I saw hiking & biking were very nice. Will do again.

First to Review

Very enjoyable hike, saw a doe early in the hike and the scenery is nice. The trail is definitely designed for biking (hence it's name), as the trail is basically a dirt/fire road. Because of high water on the foot bridge just below Beaver Lake dam, I had to make a detour onto Beaver Lake Trail. This made for a very nice hike as this trail is a more traditional hiking trail. In the future I may make this a permanent change.
