Description
Waypoints (0)

The Julie J. Metz Neabsco Creek Wetlands Preserve is part of the Potomac Heritage Trail which runs from the Allegheny Highlands to the Potomac River. Here you will find a lovely variety of forested, scrub, and emergent wetland areas that are home to waterfowl and grasslands birds (plentiful during the winter), and songbirds (during the summer). Through the preserve weave both natural surface and boardwalk trails that are great for peaceful walks. Accessibility: The trail surface is boardwalk or dirt and typically between three and six feet wide. The dirt portion may have an uneven surface from roots growing in the path that is difficult for wheelchairs/mobility equipment/strollers to navigate without assistance. The grade is mostly gentle (all estimated under 5%).

Incredibly disappointed that no one wore masks. There were even runners huffing and puffing four feet away from us. Particularly on the boardwalk when you can barely be six feet away from another, a mask is necessary. It’s been seven months. We all know what’s needed now. You wear a mask out of respect for others. Let’s be respectful of each other and make it possible for those who may be higher risk than you to still enjoy the pleasure of these areas.

Great!

beautiful area, safe to walk and so much wildlife if you look closely! For a Monday there was a lot of traffic with about 50% of people wearing masks. We will be back!

Bird WatchingGreat!

Nice place to relax your mind. Restroom available at parking lot. Some part will be muddy after rain. Board walk section is nice and clean. Dog, kids and stroller friendly.

Very scenic and relaxing during the evening. This is an active park, so be prepared to walk past groups of people.

Together, this is two very different experiences—a brand new gorgeous boardwalk over the marsh (no shade), followed by some flat trails in the woods with a few boards here and there over particularly muddy bits. The trails need a little upkeep but were passable.

BugsNo shade

It's a lovely trail located in the Woodbridge area. Free parking space and entrance. You can definitely go on a walk with your dog. It's pretty decent for cyclists. Majority of this trail is decked with very few areas your feet meets Earth's dirt. Lovely trail to go for a walk , especially for couples and families. But, beware that there is no shade in majority parts of this trail...so be ready to SWEAT! Upon entering and walking through this park, it has a very serene vibe. Would definitely go back again !

HikingMuddy

Went 03/04/2020. Easy boardwalk walk with pretty views. Good for all ages and abilities. It was fun to see a train go across the bridge in the distance. There were swarms if tiny fish in the streams. If you continue past the boardwalk, it gets a little muddy.
