Very nice scenic views early on! Rocky trail with some steep areas, but not too bad. Pretty cold hike early November with a little color left, but not too windy.

Perfect early November day for a hike. The leaves were practically finished but there still was a golden glow across the mountains. It’s a little rocky so wear your hiking boots. The view from atop Mary’s rock is beautiful and makes the 3.5 mile hike worth it.

Pretty easy, simple trail to Mary’s rock. Unfortunately their is a town below in every look out point. Average park overall

Took 4.5 hrs to complete at a moderate pace with 3 kids aged 6,8, and 10. Very good views. Moderate incline but never too steep.

Really enjoyed this hike. Starting in the picnic area gives you a road less traveled on the way to a very popular spot, Mary’s Rock. There are a lot of westward viewpoints along the AT and a mixture of climbs, scenery and rocky trail. You know as you get closer to those parking lots under a mile to the destination because it becomes very touristy. Overall, I enjoyed this hike on the AT. -Nick

Great moderate hike with exceptional views. I suggest taking the longer hike from the Pinnacle Picnic area. Coming back watch for the sign because it is easy to go back down to the Thornton Gap parking area and be 5 miles from Pinnacle.

My dog liked it lots of people

First hike in Shenandoah and it did not disappoint! Although more uphill and rocky than expected, the views and scenery were amazing. Highly recommend!

Great trail with many places for some good views. Going one way took about 1hr 30 min. I only encountered other people about 4 or 5 times, so you mostly have it to yourself. I met one lady who said she had seen a bear on the path, but I didn’t have any encounters with them. The path wasn’t too difficult and I would definitely recommend.

This was a great trail for my first hike in Shenandoah! I has the trail to myself pretty much the whole time, passing a few people going the other direction. It took me about an hour and half one way. The views from the top, and at several points along the way, were gorgeous!

Solid hike definitely moderate in difficulty. Would recommend!

Great views at the end makes this uphill trek worth it. Bring some good packed lunch n lots of water, electrolytes n protein shake. Lot of people on tr. Sunscreen n good hiking boots needed.

Ridgeline gets pretty windy, so be sure to bring extra warmth! The trail also gets a bit rocky so be sure to bring good shoes.

Awesome trail! The trail offered great views. Rocky in parts but plenty of lush green scenery and wild flowers.

great trail!! get a map beforehand if possible because there's no cell service and the signs aren't super clear. but the hike is moderate, easy to do with dogs. the Vista at the top is breathtaking, and there are view points all through the hike which was very nice. The picnic area was crowded (Saturday hike) but the trail wasn't, and we ran into a few AT backpackers.

Great hike! Only took us 3 hour 15 min which included 15 min break at the top. Overall, this hike was not too challenging. I would rate it between moderate and easy. Out of everything, the challenging part of this hike is the distance; the incline is not too bad. Very pretty views. Would not recommend going on a windy day when the temperature is lower. It was upper 30’s low 40’s, although was nice when the sun was out and mountain blocking the wind. There is a toilet at the Pinnacle picnic grounds which was convenient. Since this trail is in Shenandoah, there is a fee to park. $30 for 7 days, $55 for annual pass or $80 for interagency which provides access to any national park in the United States. Would definitely recommend this hike!

Very nice hike. A steady but not difficult climb, gorgeous views. Lots of bugs for some reason, be sure to bring bug spray. Absolutely camera worthy. More people than I expected but it is mid summer. A good hike if you're recovering from some more strenuous ones and need a breather. Starts at the picnic area, not the overlook. Trail was clearly marked. Saw a deer, lots of swallows at the rock, and bear scat but no bears.

This was a beautiful hike with the west side parts being amazing with the cool wind to deal with the humidity. Mary's Rock had a great view. with a few good vantage points along the route. Definitely a good trail for pictures.

This was a great way to see the views from Mary's Rock and add also some distance and elevation to get a good workout -- and some peace and quiet that's less likely up at the popular vista. The first half mile or so along the ridgeline was particularly pretty (particularly with leafless winter trees giving great visibility that you might not have in the summer.)
