The High Rocks Spur meanders along the eastern ridge-line of Sand Mountain until it reaches the popular outcropping, High Rocks. From High Rocks the visitor can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the valley, the Town of Wytheville and the Walker Mountains in the distance. High Rocks is definitely worth the hike. There is another trail leading to the rock outcropping from the Big Survey Wildlife Management Area. Note: The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries requires you to have a an Access Permit or a hunting/fishing license when using their property.

First section of a trail is a fire road with a bright yellow gate. Second section is a well maintained trail. The summit is quaint, not much a ton of room so if there’s families and stuff you probably won’t get much quiet. Cool rocks to climb on and such. Views aren’t quite panoramic but decently rewarding. I would do this hike again.

Trail is fairly new and is rough and unlevel with areas of exposed roots and rocks. It has been connects into the trails of Crystal Springs Recreation Area. Hiking the Boundary Trail and this trail will give you near 12 miles if parked at the parking area off of Pump Hollow Road.
