This trail follows the Guest River through a rugged and remote gorge in the Jefferson National Forest. The trail itself is a multi-use trail allowing for walking, jogging, hiking, and biking (gravel surface). Trail passes by numerous small waterfalls and provides fantastic views of rapids along the river, as well as house-sized boulders and massive sandstone cliffs within the gorge. The gorge itself contains an incredible array of wildlife, which may be seen during almost all times of year along the trail, and the river provides an excellent overview of the historical role of water in shaping the southwest Virginia landscape.

Hiked the entire route and explored off trail here and there, logging in a total of 11.69 miles with my Fitbit. This trail satisfied the hiker and explorer in me with the views, cliffs, and waterfalls! Very nice well maintained trail. There was one tree blown down.

Beautiful trail! The leaves are changing and the weather was cooler so our hike yesterday was very nice. Passed several people on bikes, hiking and pushing strollers but the trail was not busy at all. The rock formations and the river were absolutely beautiful! Will definitely go back!

We hiked about half way out and had a very nice hike. There is beautiful scenery of bluffs, boulders, tunnel, water falls and rushing river views. The trail is wide and well maintained. We went on a cool Saturday in August and met around 25 people on the trail- hiking, biking, and fishing. Great day - we spent less than 3 hours.

Good, easy hike depending on how far you go. The trail itself is very wide and well maintained so it's good for young children. The road down to the trail is paved and well maintained. There's a bathroom at the trailhead. There is a huge, abandoned railway tunnel at the very beginning of the trail that's very interesting, and some bridges with lovely views of the river. Also many areas of the trail are shady. There are some "mini trails" that branch off of the main one and lead to some very scenic areas.

The only thing bad about this trail was the length. Easy walk, most of the better views are slightly off the main trail. Definitely worth the trip though.

About an hour drive from home. It was a very pretty walk, nice and peaceful. Light traffic for a Sunday. It’s perfect for a last minute walk or fun to see something new! Can’t wait for spring!

This is a beautiful and easy quick 12 miles! It’s mostly shaded and follows the river the entire length. This was our second trip and it was totally worth it again.

Have walked this trail numerous times since I was a teenager. Very easy & is graveled the entire way. This is actually an old railway that was converted into a trail. Has an old railroad tunnel & trussell that is now a foot bridge. Probably the widest trail I have ever been on. It is great for hiking, biking, & walking the dog. Also has several popular swimming holes along the way. Overall a very nice trail.

An easy trail to navigate as it is a rails to trails path. The grade into the gorge is very gradual. There are a few waterfalls along the way, and a little shady picnic area about halfway into the gorge. Plan on about half day if you walk entire 11.6 miles.
