This hike explores the Goodwin Gold Mine back in the 1800's which was one of many in the area! There are also Sawmill ruins and other things to explore here. The trail starts out on the flat Mill pond trail and takes you to a feeder of the large lake in the area, at this location was the site of Hailey's Mill. The 2nd leg takes you through pigeon run trail along a road and into a very very quiet forest with a stream crossing. The 3rd leg brings you to the Gold mine trail, going back up along the road for a long ways until you finally reach the gold mine in the forest. The gold mine ruins, trenches, and multiple depressions are very pronounced in the area. This part of the hike presents the most abundant birds in the area, possible predatory varieties. The last leg takes you back through pine and other varieties of forests, relatively flat areas. Before reaching the parking lot, you will find a sawmill site with a pronounced water well and history sign.

Not a bad hike didn’t care for all the walking along the power lines. There were a few down trees on the trail. $7 to get into lake Anna park

Pretty easy hike. There's a couple steep hills, but nothing too strenuous. There's not much to see, so it drags a bit. Not sure if someone else covered this, but you take two other trails from the parking lot to get to the trail. It's a good trail if you're just trying to get some miles in.

Not impressed by this trail. A good bit of it is done along the power lines with no shade and tall grass. Make sure to treat your clothes and gear before you go and wear LOTS of bug spray - the flies and gnats are out of control.

The trails were well marked and parking was available. One car costs $7 on the weekend to park. There is a lot of good lake views and plenty Forest.

Nice trees and scenery. The trail was real muddy due to recent rains.
