Hiked on a chilly December afternoon and didn't run into anyone else other than an off in the distance sighting of a black bear. I'd say it's easy to moderate, but we went clockwise. It would definitely be more challenging going counter clockwise due to the steepness up to the overlook. Good views from the top.

The vistas were lovely. 429 feet gain elevation in .87 miles was buttocks uplifting! I'd advise only the sure footed use this trail a day after rain as the trail has a lot of slippery rocks. Entire up and back was 80 minutes for an out of shape 50y.o.

This trail has a moderately steep uphill climb for about .5miles. Views are great! Not busy on Labor Day afternoon. A group of hikers were leaving as we entered the trail. We heard another group as we were finishing up, but saw no one, just two deer that were close to the trail. Lots of rocks, so not recommended on a rainy day.

Somewhat rocky but pretty easy trail all around. Be sure to download the map in advance because service is spotty. Views are amazing!

Great trail with amazing views and even hits the AT for a bit. Nice visitors center with ice cream for post hike.

Great hike. The views were beautiful. We did come up on a black bear descending a tree in front of us and ended up circling back. The trail was clear, mostly dry and we only saw four others on the trail.

Shenandoah marks this trail as “easiest” and I would disagree due to the fact that the trail is a bit steep at some points and you are going up the entire way to the viewpoint. The view is amazing though! We saw a black bear cub along the trail right near the road to the campground. Short climb with a big pay off!

Great hike with amazing views! Easily marked. We took the left side up and watched the sunset from the second overlook. Absolutely gorgeous, and the hike back down in the dark wasn’t bad either. Can’t wait to go back & take the kiddos.

Short and easy hike with kids, with impressive views at the top! The outcrop is rocks were icy when we went (January) and slippery, but the kids thought playing on them were great fun!

Really well-marked trail with easy/moderate elevation climb. Our young children (6 & 4) hiked this fairly easily. Big payoff at the summit for the amount of work you put in to get there!

Fairly continuous elevation. It's a walk up to the summit and then back down in a loop. Went with wife and 3 yo daughter and had a lunch on top overlooking a great view. Two separate spots on the trail to have a great view from the top of the summit. Daughter had me carry her most of the way, but she had hiked a longer trail the day before and might've just been too tuckered out. Feel like a child could safely walk alone for the majority. Most of this trail is not near steep runoffs so fairly safe. One side has a fair amount of rocks. We went 12/23 and were the only people on the trail the entire time we were there..

Pretty good trail

A great trail to do for a short hike! Today was the first time we had our three-month old out in the backpack, so we were looking for shorter trails to do and this one fit the bill perfectly. It's got a good bit of climbing, if you come from the parking lot, but because it's only about a 1/2 mile or so it's not that bad, and the views from both lookouts are nice. I actually expected it to be much busier than it was, since it's so close to the visitor center. At the top you have the option of hiking down the AT for a little while for additional mileage. The huge rock outcropping about 3/4 of the way from the top is beautiful as well - a great trail to see lots of different stuff at Shenandoah! Highly recommended if you're looking for a quick trail that offers a lot of bang-for-the-buck.
