Very nice hike through the forest although it definitely shouldn’t be “easy”. We really enjoyed it and will hike it again!

Easy and nicely shaded. One part wasn’t accessible because of work being done. Definitely a lot more mountain bikers than walkers/hikers.

I like this trail, but sometimes it's easy to get lost on some of the smaller parts of the trail.

Nice little trail wedged in between two hills. Nice for running and dog walking.

Really nice quick moderate loop. Good for running and biking with a ton of quick switchbacks. Will come again.

The waterfall in this park is absolutely beautiful!!! So many cool rocks to explore. The trail itself it pretty popular and wide, although there are some side trails up the hill.

I highly recommend Buttermilk Trail and Forest Hill Park. Beautiful trails in downtown Richmond area. This is my go to spot when in town.

Great trail. If biking better to have some experience. Will have to carry your bike over a stream (unless you are crazy technical). This trail is not easy. It is a moderate hike. It is also more than 3.5 miles. Bring your AllTrails - there are several places direction is not obvious.

I would agree with others that this is more of a Moderate trail rather than an Easy one, though it was still a very enjoyable hike through the park (much of it through the woods and away from the paved paths). There is one part where you have to cross a stream, and although it wasn't a raging river, I had to pause and take some time to figure out which way would be the best across without the chance of my shoes getting submerged.

We do this trail about every other week. Once you get the hang of it it’s really nice scenery and good elevation for exercise. There are a lot of mountain bikers on this trail so I would not suggest doing this trail with headphones on as you need to hear them coming. Once you enter the trail you’ll be able to follow the path to your right (packed stones) or to the left (small trail) - take the left to start the trail in numerical order. You’ll see signs along the way that indicate you’re going in the right direction marked FH When you get to the small creek with rocks you have to cross over the creek to continue the trail. Have fun!

This is a wonderful trail. You almost forget you're in the middle of a city! It's not too strenuous, perfect for a weekend afternoon, or even after work (took me about an hour twenty). There isn't a ton of traffic on this trail, but you should keep an ear out for bikers. There are a lot of switchbacks, and there certainly could be much better signage to ensure you stay on the correct trail, as there are a lot of other paths; however, this map did help a lot. Overall, I would highly recommend this hike!

Super beautiful trail, trails were slightly confusing though. There were many paths that turned into two paths with no signs signaling which trail was what.

I started on a Sunday morning about 9 am and it took me about an hour and 20 minutes. I encountered a handful of bikers, runners, and other walkers. Definitely keep an ear out for the bikers, they can sneak up on you pretty quick. Not too difficult of a trail but it is narrow with lots of rocks and tree stumps so watch your footing. I had to refer to my map at a few trail crossings but there are trail markers every so often. Overall I had an excellent time and I absolutely recommend this trail. Oh and it’s dog friendly :)

Nice trail, great to run, goes up and down and need to be careful when running not to stubble on roots or stones. Quite busy trail with families, bikers, but people very respectful and makes the run an interesting and enjoyable experience. Keep the map open to check where on the trail you are as there are several trails crossing. Have fun!

Great fun hike with the family. Kids enjoyed the switchback trails and elevation changes. Had a good variety of scenery and was a good distance at just under 3 miles for our 8 and 6 year olds. Definitely will do it again

Overall a great trail. We took our 6 and 2 year old and they loved it. If you have younger kids bring a carrier as their legs get tired. Don’t forget snacks and water!

This is not an easy trail as rated. Definitely moderate with a lot of ups and downs and switchback. Very shaded but not well marked. Think like a biker and you'll probably make right choices. Using All Trails GPS was a first.
