First Landing Loop Trail is a 8.4 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Virginia Beach, Virginia and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and trail running and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Although it rained a few days ago, I was surprised to find such minimal patches of mud. I hiked the first half of the loop along the coastline, taking advantage of the scenic views and the echo of small waves crashing the beach. Decided to run the second half of the loop back to the parking lot.
A little muddy but overall in great shape. Needed the app to stay on trail at a couple of points and never found the 1.2 mi stretch on the back half of the loop. But I recommend the parallel stretch near the beach--beautiful views and very light traffic.
Walked this trail on a weekend (paid $10 parking fee) around 3pm 86° F. Perfect weather to go on a nice long walk and it was very enjoyable. I do recommend taking hiking boots because it is wet and muddy specially after all the rain we had in VA the last couple of days. Not too many bugs and lots of shade. Dogs are welcomed and a lot of people were riding their bikes through the trail. We did 6 miles in 2.5hrs.
Really liking this area for a quick, peaceful hike. Hardly ever see anyone on the trail, tons of shade, not many bugs and the scenery always has something new to see. Great trail.
Great hike!!! Well marked, flat paths. Great for the family, including the dog. When along water, beware of high water and high tide, especially White Hill Lake and Broad Bay (be prepared to get wet feet, make driftwood bridges, or even turn around). Also, watch out for folks with dogs off leashes.
Your hike will be a series of running away from bugs, mosquitos and crabs. Best when it's pouring rain! Super fun:)! The hike was intended to be a "hike" but eventually turned into a game of tag via mosquitos. The crabs seemed to be running from something bigger than us we have yet to find out. Eventually down the beaten path we found a turtle... we got way to hype when we found it and took it with us... but after the countless hours of walking we soon hoped for a little rain to aid the bug bites... next thing we know the rain started pouring down and we had a wild run "with the turtle" back to the car. Meh mad decent hike!
