Drove 3 hours to visit the bridge only to see a sign at the entrance that the bridge is closed for renovations. We still wanted to check the area out so drove up to the pay station. Unfortunately we had no cash and weren’t sure if we were going to do anything in the park so we drove through. Found a parking spot where a ranger was eye balling me and my boyfriend the entire time. We get out of the car and walk to the area that is blocked off just to see if we could see the bridge from there. As we are walking the ranger drives past us and backs up to block the taped off area that led to the bridge. So we proceeded to turn around. The ranger then gets out of his car to ask if we needed help. I told him no we were just looking at the area hoping to see the bridge. He immediately got an attitude and said “you didn’t see the closed signs at the entrance or the pay station? Did you even stop to pay to get in the park?” I proceeded to tell him no we weren’t sure if we were going to stay just wanted to check out the area and the trails. He was very rude and told us we needed to pay and that he was writing tickets for trespassing as if we were thinking about going around the blocked off area. After the rude encounter with the ranger we just left. Wasn’t worth even checking out the other trails near by because he was staring as is the whole time. Apparently the bridge closed for renovations on the 18th just a few days before we could make it to the bridge. Was very disappointed in how the ranger treated us more than anything. All we wanted to do was look around since we drove 3 hours.

My husband, I, & a friend hiked High Bridge Trail from the Rice, Va access point to the bridge, hiked around Camp Paradise under the Bridge & back for a total of 8.5ish miles. For January it was busy, but it was such a nice day! The trails & bathroom are well maintained & signage was good.

Gorgeous, if chilly, morning hike from the main Farmville lot to the main attraction. Only saw four other people, all of whom were kindly social distancing. The bridge itself is a wonder. Majestic and inspiring. Great spot for a morning meditation. 5/5, would recommend

This is a really great trail for walking or bike riding. Very wide and flat with a good amount of shade throughout. I started in downtown Farmville (Main Street) and walked to the end of the bridge and back - in total it was about 11 miles. Almost no elevation so it was very easy endurance wise. It was a nice view of downtown Farmville as well if you have never been!

Family of 5 (elementary- high school age kids) bikes. We road from bridge out and back totaling about 12 miles (we didn’t do the whole thing). It was easy for younger kids - good, flat, large, small gravel trail. They loved the bridge and we road in the evening time and saw plenty of bunnies & even a deer. It was nice & quiet and not overly crowded.

I consider myself a beginner since it’s my 4th trail. Lots of butterflies and grasshoppers. There was a thin black snake that did cross in front of me. Did you here me SCREAM!!! It’s flat and the 4 miles was a challenge. I did get overheated once I crossed the bridge though. After a good break and some I water, I was returning without any problems since it’s mostly shaded. Oh, the bathroom is placed in the perfect location (close to river road crossing) as it was definitely a relief after all the water I needed. People were assisting me with pic, even standing on the benches! It was a great day. One to remember when it’s cold and snowy.

Loved it but know there is absolutely no place to get water. No gas station, vending machine - nothing! A couple restrooms. Kept in great shape.

Parked at River Rd entrance ($5). Within a mile we were at high bridge. Really cool bridge! Quite long. The rest of the trail was just ok. No views. Lots of forest. Great trail if you’re wanting to put in a lot of mileage.

A lovely trail, very flat and easy to walk. The only thing is-if you’re trying to get to the river road access point do not go by where the trail head is marked on here! Doing so will put you 4+ miles out of your way in an unshaded part of the trail.

Fantastic trail. We followed the advice to park at the River Road lot, and took the trail to the river behind Paradise Camp. Once down at the river, we were able to wade a bit—-refreshing, especially since it was so hot!!!! Lovely trail; definitely worth it!

Great hike. Would be good if the Camp Paradise Gate, if it was going to stay closed for the holiday observance, would have been marked as such. Nevertheless, a nice walk!
