Hiking

Passed the large sign somehow and went on a very pleasant creekside trail on the opposite side of the road, then back to the correct trail. Absolutely beautiful and worth the drive. something very pleasant & peaceful about it, with the sun glistening on the snow & ice. Wonderful!

Super easy. We went in the snow so the mountain road was a little dicey, definitely recommend 4x4. It was magical with the ice! Family loved it.

WalkingGreat!

Not much of a hike, just a short walk down to the falls. Great place for kids/family. So relaxing! There are trails nearby if you're up for a hike before or after visiting the falls.

WalkingGreat!

Not so much a hike, more like a quick walk down a steep hill. I really enjoyed the short distance though because it allowed us to hangout at the falls longer. You walk down and then have to climb down a bit of a ledge before you reach the falls base and the pool you can swim in. You can continue another short walk up to the top of the falls. You can jump off of them too, saw a few do it, so it’s deep. I just chose to swim a bit. Not as slippery on the rocks as I thought they would be. I really enjoyed this stop!

Love the drive out here!!! Very easy hike for no one with issues. Rocks are wet so please watch your step and make sure it’s planted good.

Hiking

It's only a short walk down a steep hill to get to the falls. However, it's quite difficult for those with a disability or injury. I traveled to these falls with someone with a broken leg. While the slope was somewhat manageable, the final descent to the falls was not. There is a small sitting ledge at the falls giving an obstructed view. Was too much of a drop for this person to manage. The falls themselves were stunning. Even with lower water levels. So many colors and angles as the water travels over an extensive rock surface and series of steps. Once the leg heals completely...will be back for another viewing and to investigate the little trails of the surrounding area.

Love this place. It’s not really a “hike” since it’s just a quick walk down the hill but the falls are beautiful. There’s a lot of trails nearby as well to jump on!

LOVE this place. Not so much a “hike”, as you just walk down an easy slope, straight to the falls. But there are plenty of paths to explore once you’re down there. Great place to escape to.

Either the road to the falls wasn't very well marked or I missed it. After taking about a 20 mile detour looking for the falls, I circled back around and went to the store and asked. When you turn off of 42 onto route 606, turn right on the road just beyond the little gas station/country store. The road will turn to gravel and you'll see signs for the falls. Not much of a hike really, just a short walk from the gravel road to the falls. Just be careful once you get closer to the falls on the trail as it gets rocky and wet. During warmer months this placed will be full of people swimming and walking over top of the falls to get to the other side. It appears deep enough but not sure as I didn't have stuff to swim in.

Beautiful little spot. Worth the drive, even though there's not much hiking to be had at the Falls themselves. Fun place to boulder hop and climb around, though. Trent's Grocery store is right down the road; be sure to stop by. We hopped on a portion of the AT south from VA 606 (there's a drive you can pull into that fits about 5 cars). Even just a half mile on the trail headed south, there's a nice vista and worth the time. There's also an Amish market nearby (on VA 42) and a winery, too.

Nature trips

For an extended walk/hike, jump on the AT just off Wilderness Road. You’ll see the steps leading up into the woods. From there you’ll be on some switchbacks and ridgelines for about 30-40 minutes. Watch for the aqua blaze on your left and note the “Dismal Falls” written in permanent marker on a stake attached to a tree. It is then a 2-3 minute walk to the upper tier of the falls. Note the thru-hiker campground on the right! Check out Trent’s Grocery for AT thru-hiker photos and refreshments!

It’s was very pretty. No hiking involved. Probably wouldn’t make a special trip to go there, but if your in the area it’s worth seeing.
