I gave this 4 stars just because it was a nice afternoon hike with a great reward. With the leaves gone I was able to see more and winter has it's own beauty. Also the trail is well maintained and well marked. You're hiking on the AT. The first half mile is easy with very little rocks mostly small ups and downs. At the half mile point you start to go up. Probably on the harder side of moderate but not hard. Like others have said, when you get to the junction go left for the viewpoint with great views. This branch is rocky but it's a fairly short hike to the viewpoint and worth it. After this viewpoint I did start on the trail to the eastern viewpoint but it was pretty rocky and downhill. I decided if there wasn't a good view at the end it wasn't worth it. I turned around and headed back to the parking lot. Only saw 2 others on the trail. All in all a nice little hike on a winters day. BTW temp was 41 deg but felt warmer than that. I'm sure I'll do this one again.

The first half mile follows Skyline Drive very close, but once you get past that section, the trail is much more secluded. At the top of Compton Peak, the viewpoint to the right is steep and has a steady stream running down it at the steepest, rockiest part. This could likely get very icy and slippery if it gets colder. Otherwise, this hike is easy to follow. The viewpoint to the left is awesome.

Nice well marked trail. on the easy end of moderate. At the T go right first as the views are better to the left.

Overall it was a great hike; however there were a decent amount of gnats buzzing about. I had two dogs (GSD and Mal) on the trail with the family. Halfway there’s a small creek the dogs soaked their paws in to cool off a bit. For the views the left is best. Right the view was covered by treetops and was a pretty steep hike. Additionally the trail were lined with wild flowers and mushrooms. Would recommend shoes with ankle support and bug spray. ⚠️Tip: at the entrance take the first (hard) right onto the flat pathway. If you miss it and take the second right you end up on the Appalachian trail (rocky; downhiller, uphill back is a cardio burner). Note—-had broken glass probably about the first 20m so if you have pups be careful with their paws.

Go right when you first walk in. At the top of the T, the views to the left are the best. To the right trees cover the view

Loved this today!! Weather was awesome and the leaves were amazing!

Nice easy hike with the wife and dog. Not as dramatic of an incline as the other way to peak and also better views. Vista at the summit has a pretty nice view. One of the nicer hikes close to the northern most entrance.

A nice path through the woods. It follows part of the AT. There is a beautiful over look at the top!

Short fun tree covered hike with nice views at the lookouts.

Just a note on the entrance to this hike, it’s not well marked. This hike, make a right at the cross in the path when you first enter. I️ made the mistake of going straight, and while a nice 3.5 mile hike down and back up, it didn’t offer many views. Still very enjoyable and beautiful area.

Nice hike. Not very strenuous. It was foggy the morning we did this hike so I can’t say what the views are like from the top. The trail is nice.

Nice, short hike. Heavy fog during parts, but still a nice view from west lookout.
