The trail was extremely rocky for most of the way, but the boulders you find at the top are quite impressive! The view was great!

Great trail! If you do this in out route you won't see any water. Awesome view near the end of the turn around of this in-out. Slightly overgrown in areas but the trail is really nice.

All in all a fun trail. I went the counterclockwise route. Front half a great view and swimming hole. Arduous and boring on the back half.

Made the rookie mistake of hiking one of my favorite trails on a holiday. Never have I encountered more unfriendly, inconsiderate people on a trail than I did this morning. I love saying “good morning” to people and hearing crickets...and it’s always a blast, on the back-end ascent up Wildcat, to move aside for groups of folks moseying downhill. Shout out to all who weren’t a-holes. Yay ‘Merica All joking aside, this hike has it all...just pick another day, my friends. (Counterclockwise from Horsehead Overlook)

Great views at chimney rock. Worth the climb up. Pretty Rocky and steep at certain points. Lots of water access after the first few miles and some nice places to stop for snacks/lunch on rocks in the middle of streams. Great campsite after climbing the creek bed and before Wildcat goes steeply uphill. Before the stream crossing look for the rock cairn on the left of the trail and walk through the woods ~100ft. Pretty rocky, but there's a small clearing perfect for a tent and I dug up most of the rocks that were still there. After that it's a very steep two miles uphill to the AT and then gradual rolling hills back to Riprap parking. No water on the last leg.

Did trail clockwise from Riprap parking lot which saved the views for the end. Very nice trail, covered by trees most of the way, water hole in the middle to cool down. Water crossings no issue; able to keep boots dry. Trail easy to follow. Mountain laurel does make parts of the trail quite narrow. Trail was busy; saw about 50 people on the trail on a Sunday.

If you go early I recommend going clockwise to catch the best views last but if you go later then counterclockwise. I went counterclockwise and completed the trail with Bella(German Shepherd) in around 3 hours. The sign at the trail head said this was an 8 & half hour hike lol. I even stopped a few times so Bella could drink some water and only ran a part of the moving pace.

hiked this on 1/12/2020 on a oddly warm mid january day, very nice overlooks at the calvary and chimney rocks, turned back after chimney, could see how it would be hard in summer with the growth as the trail was a tad narrow in portions, was not a strenuous hike and would definitely do again

Nice little day hike with the pup. Some moderate inclines, but nothing too crazy. The view from Chimney Rock is beautiful. Didn’t go the whole trail; turned around at Chimney. 10/10 would come back.

This was an awesome trail! You have a few streams to cross. I picked up Riprap Trail from Crimora. Going clockwise you take Riprap Trail to the AT then return on Wildcat trail.

We did this hike to catch the sunset and wow. The light was astoundingly beautiful. Still has some fall colors to admire at the outcrops. Thankful for my new hiking boots, as you need the ankle support for the rockier parts of the trail.

Fantastic! The leaves combined with the rockiness made it a little more slippery than I would have preferred but the view made it worth it! Not too hard for a good intro hike for a city kid.

It’s a fine trail but not a lot of room at the top. We got up there and there was a 30 person tour hike taking up the area and we had to ask to be able to see the view so I could at least rate the trail. So I would recommend going at sunrise. We went on a random Tuesday at 2 pm and thought we were smart! Also the way going back is fairly steep.
