Awesome trail! Winter views added to the walk on the AT until you reach the loop path and rock scramble at Black Rock Summit. It was an exceptional day with no haze so the views were spectacular. I rate the hike easy to moderate and the trail was in excellent condition, not rocky, which is rare in this region of Virginia. The 5.6 mile post for this hike is accurate.

I would recommend the hike. Trail is in excellent condition and follows the Appalachian Trail most of the way. Black Rock Summit offers a near 360° view of the Shenandoah Mountains and has a large optional rock scramble at the summit.

Parked at black rock summit parking. Extremely nice views from summit. Relatively short hike to top. Approx 0.7 miles. Saw a bear cub running through woods while on trail. Took double blue from summit down and around. This trail has Could potentially add distance but starting by Brown Gap.

Nice view, and a pretty easy hike. Very busy on a nice day— lots of dogs and kids.
