CampingIcyMuddySnow

Did it yesterday (Saturday) before the rains & warmth melted much of the snow. Extremely icy and slushy and muddy up near summit. Extremely beautiful though with the low hanging clouds and fog resting at the bases of the nearby mountains. It is by far one of the most stunning views around and easier than the Ridge trail.

It was a quite icy. Crampons are definitely currently needed to finish the old rag loop safely

From the parking lot, the trail took only one hour and a half to reach the top at summit old rag. The trail was up and back. Definitely recommend taking walking sticks this time of the year as there is lots of ice on the trail and not suitable for young children or anyone that has balance issues. No dogs are allowed on the trail. Not too many people, so it was not overcrowded for a weekend. I would love to do this trail in the fall time and watch all of God's glorious leaves change colors as the sun sets. Also would be a great trail to do a camping trip. recommend to anyone that loves the outdoors.

Snowed hard and whiteout all the way to the top and then the skies cleared just in time for a beautiful sunset!

HikingGreat!

great trail, no ice or mud. follows a fire road for the first bit of the hike up until the old rag shelter. couple nice views on the way up, was not too strenuous, not too many people on the summit so definitely recommend going on a weekday, parking lot is small and was starting to fill up when we got there around 9:20.

Old Rag out and back from Berry Hollow. Good option if you’re looking for a view from the top without the rock scramble when wet or icy.

Great trail! You start on a fire road for a bit before hitting the actual trail. If you’re going to hike Old Rag from this direction, this is the less strenuous way to go without the rock scramble. The hike is a bit longer than AllTrails has listed. Also, the parking lot is pretty small. Was full when we got there so we actually parked at White Oak Canyon and walked from there, added about an extra 1.5 miles to the total trip.

Beautiful view, not that hard of a hike as hiking from the north side but has some rocky spots in there! A few icy spots as well higher up

Great Hike! You do hike a fire road for about a mile before you hit the trail.
