Highly recommend doing this trail when there are no leaves on the trees. Beautiful mountain range views the whole way. Wolf shelter has a beautiful stream and a stocked campfire!

13-March-2020 Nice trail, well kept and moderately traveled. I arrived at 8:30am and did a slow out and back again hike. Counted 29 people. The cemetery and "house" (both right on the trail) deserve a quick stop.

HikingGreat!

Decent hike, not any views but pretty still. Definitely some bear activity but never came across one (could hear them I believe).

This was a nice easy hike well-maintained past. The beginning is a little tricky. The trail head is across the Guard rail just before you cross the bridge right on the street.

Hiking

Woke up and decided to go solo hike this trail and did it in just over 3 hours. I think it is properly rated as moderate. The trail is very well maintained. The incline is not very strenuous. Probably a great hike for someone who’s just begun. Saw a few other hikers, LOTS of cool flora, and some deer. The cemetery, house remains, and stream were fun sights. 4 stars because of the lack of views.

Hiking

This was my first official hike on the Appalachian Trail! I enjoyed everything about my hike. It was a cloudy day with very few views but I didn’t care. I was in the AT having the time of my life. Now for the details. Very well kept section of the trail. At least 5 small stream crossings, with a couple a bit precarious. Not till the shelter at the end of the hike do you come to a true water crossing where I’d expect to get wet. I left very early and saw only one person in my decent. That wasn’t the case going back. The Shenandoah National Park just opened up partially and the trail got crowded around midday. Saw one northbound thru hiker! Wonderful section of the AT and I’d recommend it.

Running

Sunday morning...started about 8:30. Parking was no problem and only came across a dozen or so hikers and runners over the next 2.5 hours. The trail is in overall good shape with a couple of newly fallen trees to work around/over. No real issues with the bugs or bears.

Run/Hiked. Trail is in great shape and there was no problem with ticks or biting flies. Couple of steep sections, but plenty of runnable terrain.

Backpacking

On my way from NC to Dolly Sods in West Virginia where I met some friends I decided to jump on the AT at Rockfish Gap. I began hiking south towards Humpback Rocks- about a 7 mile hike. My plan was to camp at the Paul C. Wolfe Shelter but I wanted to hike past it and then turn back north for the night. There were what I expected- lots of ups and downs with switch backs. I met one north bound through hiker who said he encountered a mama bear and two cubs. Also he said he saw a timber rattler. I took a break at the shelter and moved on to Humpback. I turned north back to the shelter for the night. There was a nice Creek in front of the shelter- Mill Creek. Great water source and a place to soak my tired feet. I enjoyed my stay.

First to Review

Parkway was closed. Used this as a substitute. Nice quiet hike. And with the leaves still off, you still had great views. Will keep this one on the list.
