Appalachian Trail: Black Horse Gap to Bearwallow Gap is a 7.7 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Montvale, Virginia that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October.
Nice hike. Very little elevation change. I parallels the Parkway.
This hike is much easier than McAfee Knob or Dragons Tooth but I'm not in shape enough to call any 7.7 mile hike "easy". Lol. It was great! Crosses over the parkway several times, so you could shorten the hike by parking at any of several overlooks along the way. In the winter many places offer a through trees, view on both sides of the trail!
This is a new favorite for sure. Only downside is most of the trail you can hear traffic on the parkway.
A great experience!!!
Easy hike! I did it with 26 ninth grade students. We did 8.3 miles in 3.45 hours, on a very foggy, damp day.
