The Lost Mine is a roughly 2 mile loop trail located just past the Reservoir in Chester, Vermont. The trail features a mine (the lost mine) that was in operation in the late 1800s/early 1900's which is one of only 3 known sources in the world of chesterite - a silicate mineral with a unique crystal structure - which was first discovered here back in 1977. There's not much of a view anywhere along the trail however, the trail does eventually follow a picturesque brook.

Decent trail. We were the only ones on the trail the whole time.

Great trail though could use some maintenance. We were alone on the entire trail today, mid-day. Great day!

This trail is great during the winter, since no one uses it. In the warmer months, not so much. Lots of people on the trails, especially those who don't like dogs. Many people from out of state who ruin the vibe here. Careful of porcupines and hunting/people with guns.

Beautiful trail through the forest, old stone walls, an old mine and a view of a distant mountain. Well marked. Moderate trail, had our dog with us and she had no problems.

Beautiful wooded forest. Stonewalls, a small view of Mt Ascutney, and marvelous trees await you here.

This is a relatively easy loop trail. There's not much of a view anywhere along the trail but it's a nice hike through the town forest. There is an old abandoned talc mine along the trail from the early 1900's.
