Sunset Rock is a 1.6 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Stowe, Vermont that features a great forest setting and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
I would not classify this as an easy trail, due to the elevation gain. The first .5 of a mile up to the 2nd look out is well marked. The next .5 mile or so definitely needs some trail work.
Nice walk near town. Not much of a view. The trail is shorter than alltrails says
Quick trail that’s steep for the first third of a mile. The app has the trail going much further than it actually goes. Nice one for the dog or the kids.
Nice walk from downtown Stowe. Recommend parking in town and walking down sunset Str and starting from there. Just after “butlers pantry” Overload not notable this tome of year due to leaves on trees, but a pleasant 40 min walk to stretch our legs before brunch.
Walk up short and fairly steep but some excellent views from both vantages a short let all side path takes you to a rock hole good for kids to check out. ended up taking the road back to make it a loop. stay on the trails, road isn't worth adding to it.
Took my 4 year old son on our first hike together here back in October. A nice steep climb with moderste scramble for his little legs. Absolutely stunning views over quaint Stowe in the midst of a beautiful Vermont fall! Nicely marked and easy to follow! Loved every minute!
Great little trail near the heart of Stowe village. We took the trail on Thanksgiving week-end and it was very nice. A warning though: the map in AllTrails shows that you can go farther than the Upper Overlook so we did and met with a couple of hunters with rifles whom we clearly disturbed. Better to stop at Upper Overlook.
Very short trail. I think it was only actually about 1 mile out and back. We parked at the top and you get to the Mount Mansfield Overlook almost immediately, then it’s a only a short downhill to Sunset Rock. Rest of the trail after that is short - then just a climb back up to the lot. A couple decent views but nothing spectacular. Took about 30 minutes total including stopping to look at the views. No one else on the trail.
Pretty Trail, the top of this trail is around the point where you see a large rock. The “trail” on this map was inaccurate (after that rock). We kept going to try to see the Mansfield lookout, but couldn’t find it. I would like to try this one again, but add in the saber trail into the loop
