Nice trail with switchbacks that help put it on the easier side of moderate. Bugs are coming out now, and there was still mud and snow and ice on sections of the trail. About 2 hours and 36 min round trip with a snack break at the cabin by the pond.

Beautiful hike with lots of water crossing. there is still a lot of snow after about a mile in, which made it a little harder than initially anticipated. Nice cabin by the pond to relax before heading back.

Great hike but a ton of snow and ice at the top. Really muddy in the middle. Wear waterproof boots and take crampons and hiking poles. Wonderful views! And more like a 5.5 mi hike by my GPS and All Trails app.

Very nice trail. Not too intense and not too mellow. I’d say moderate or an easy moderate. When you get to the intersection with the LT you can go through the intersection for a short jaunt to the Skylight Lodge which is a sweet little cabin with an ok view of the pond. But I hear that if you want views then you take a right at the intersection with the LT and not to far up you need to kind of look around to find the views which are supposedly great (we learned this afterwards). Anyway, nice trail, lots of water/stream crossings. Different kinds of forests as we went up in elevation. Moose tracks and even bear tracks up high. Snow is perfect for hiking right now.

Beautiful trail, pretty hard for a “moderate” hike. But well worth it for the beautiful view at the top!

Would say this is on the challenging side of moderate hike, but then again I am from CT, hiking around VT. A few water crosses and the leaves/mud can make the trip back down a bit slippery. Overall enjoyable hike with a cool cabin at the top!

Took us longer than planned to reach the pond due to slippery/muddy conditions after heavy rains the day before. Pond is very pretty. No other hikers on the way in, just a few as we headed out. Nice wildfowers in parking area. Our tracker measured our roundtrip at just over 7 miles. We thought the rocky inclines might be tough for kids to navigate

Nice little trail. A little anticlimactic at the top. Was hoping for a slightly nicer view of the pond but was still peaceful and quiet. Saw a few other hikers but not very any. Took us about 2 1/2 hours up and down with a little break at the lodge. Was a little wet and slippery when we went out so definitely recommend good shoes.

Hiked from Middlebury gap to skylight pond and down. Beautiful day though a bit muddy in places. Lots of moose evidence though we didn't see any ourselves.

I loved this trail!! Rather moderate hike with a gradual climb....trail is all switchbacks with no intense straight up climb. Great way to get access to the Long Trail!! Headed maybe .2 miles south on the Long Trail to Battel Mountain to grab a view. Pond was beautiful and teeming with life!!

GREAT trail, not difficult... and beautiful view from the lodge. It was cold, foggy and windy today- so not a great day for a hike, but beautiful nonetheless.

The trails were in decent condition considering the time of year. Be prepared for mud. The Skyline lodge was great and the sunrise was incredible. Definitely worth the trip from Maine. Bagged Breadloaf and Wilson.

Absolutely gorgeous, peaceful trail that crosses the Long Trail toward the top. A nice lodge for through hikers at the pond, which is a lovely vista. Very uneven ground, lots of short but steep increases and crossing over water ways. A fun hike with a decent work out. Definitely recommend!

Absolutely beautiful trail. Beautiful view at the pond. We enjoyed sitting on the porch of the cabin (lodge) looking at the view of the pond. I loved this hike... it probably tops out as my most favorite trail thus far (I've done many). It's not difficult and is a nice gradual ascent with what seems like many switchbacks. Beautiful brooks along the way. I wouldn't miss this one.

Lovely quick hike up to the pond. It took three fit hikers approximately an hour to do the trail. At the intersection, If you head just a few feet south on the Long Trail there is a short unmarked side trail on the right that will take you to a beautiful view. The trail is very short but involves climbing over a rock crevice.
