Fantastic hike. I ascended Dean/Long trail and it is definitely the most challenging route to the summit. I probably wouldn't want to take this route down, descending Monroe is probably your best option. And as previous reviewer stated, watch out for bears. I ran into a large black bear about a 1/2 mile from the summit on long trail. Had a bear whistle and made a lot of noise and the bear wandered off, but just be prepared!
