Tips

This easy road bike pedal is a great way to experience Zion National Park. The relative lack of auto traffic enables riders to enjoy the scenery without noise and car-danger.

Listen for the National Park shuttle buses - you are required to pull over and stop for them to pass you. Also, bring your bike lock if you want to hike The Narrows at the end of the road - I didn't and regretted it! While easy to pedal, remember that the entire ride is almost 18 miles - probably a good idea to bring extra food. Water is available at the end of the road by the Narrows trailhead.

Bike touringGreat!

Amazing bike experience (definitely better than taking the shuttles because you can stop wherever you want to take photos). We rented bikes from the bike rental shop just outside of the visitor center, and bikes all the way to the end of the shuttle stop (beginning of river walk and the narrow trail). The way to go has some incline, but the way back is super easy. Enjoy the wind.

Zion Canyon Road Bike Route - We rode regular bikes from a rental spot just outside of the state park and down to The Narrows hike stop. The way there has some incline, but nothing a beginner can't do. The views are FANTASTIC throughout and there weren't any issues with traffic since it's a private road. I HIGHLY recommend this ride and will definitely do it again next time I'm in the area!

Road bikingGreat!

Beautiful bike route. Started in Springdale where the paved bike route starts, biked through Springdale, took a right at the last set of stores before the Zion Park vehicle entrance and behind to Brew pub and Zion outfitters shop you will find a very poorly marked pedestrian and bike entrance. Show your park pass and you can bike all the way back to the end of the canyon (congested for about a mile around the visitor center) but gets much better after that when it is just hikers, bikers and shuttle buses. Round trip was 25 miles. Gorgeous. Easy ride. About 20F cooler in the canyon section.

We rode regular road bikes from the Visitor Center to Temple of Sinawava on Jan. 20, 2020. It wasn’t too difficult for a novice like me, but it is a gradual 550 ft climb throughout the 8 miles. The shuttles were not running, and the traffic was not heavy. It was an amazing ride. I’d love to do it again. It’s so much better to see the views from the bike than the shuttle. Note- the recordings are a little off as they get to the end of the road. The recordings suggest that there’s a steep incline, which is not the case.

Started at 7am just behind the first bus and was able to ride the entire length and back having the road all to myself. Just a rafter (flock) of turkey and a large number of mule deer along the road. Stunning views with the sun lighting up the tops of the peak. Great ride.

Most beautiful drive in a gorgeous park! Lots of photo stops. January is awesome because you can drive in the park and crowds are small (especially during the week, busier on weekends).

We went Dec 11 and drove the scenic drive on the 13th. Not super crowded but they do have some road work by the zion lodge. Bonus tip: another great drive is to enter the park's tunnel through the east entrance of the park!

Although we have driven up many times without any traffic, including the night before this drive, we took the tram this time as we were doing Angel's Landing and then cooling off at the Narrows. Drove up through Springdale and parked on the side of the road just opposite the entrance to the drive. We got there early so secured one of these hallowed spots. Think we got the first or second tram of the morning because there were only 6 people on the tram. We rode up to the Grotto and got off, then did a spectacular hike to the top of Angel's Landing. It was only 109 degrees in the valley when we got down, so we took the tram the rest of the way to the Narrows and cooled our feet in the river.... ahhhhhh.... that's the way to do it! Zion is absolutely heavenly, in step where angels dare to tread. Don't miss the scenic driving or the hiking or the views or encountering mule deer or bighorn sheep.

I love this drive and the trails that it leads to. When I can drive a car because it outside the busy season it's hard to keep my eyes on the road even though I been there many times. Love hiking the many trails that have trailheads along this road.

One amazing view after the next, from the wonderful town of Springdale just outside the park to the end of the road at the Temple of Sinawava.
