Getting There

Trails starts near Fruit Heights and climbs the ridge up to the Great Western Trail / Francis Peak Road.

Farmington Parks & Rec 720 W 100 N Farmington, UT 84025 (801) 451-0953

Access #1 - Fruit Heights: This trail access takes you up Little Canyon, which is north of Shepard Canyon. From South Mountain Road in Fruit Heights, turn east on East Oaks Drive (~300 S.) and wind up the hill to 1800 E. (Davis Blvd). Turn left. Go north to the end of the street and park by the water tank that is up a short road to the east. Hike up the trail 100 feet then take the jeep road going southeast. This road goes about a half mile to the mouth of Little Canyon. Continue up the canyon another three quarters of a mile. After a switchback, look for a small connecting trail on your right that winds up the mountain to the ridge on the south. If you reach a large bend in the jeep road, you have gone too far. Access #2 - Farmington Trailhead: Start on the south end of the Fruit Heights Upper Terrace Trail (#21). See the trailhead instructions listed on page 150. The Wolverine Trailhead is at the first small canyon you come to when hiking north.

Hiking

Very steep, recent rock slide in some areas that made the trail difficult to access in some areas.

Hiked to Francis Peak via Wolverine Ridge today. The trail is in much better condition than it was a couple years ago. I think it's the most direct route to Francis Peak (4.19 miles 4473 feet from cul-de-sac to summit). Very steep .. a great work out.

This trail is steep from the bottom to the top. It was hard! There is marking but sometime i had to use my gps to make sure i was taking it correctly. There was a little bit of snow but nothing preventing the hike.

Didn’t hike with my poles... big mistake. Killer elevation gain. No one on the trail. Snow was present about a mile to the top..

The trail is rated as hard because it is hard. yes, it is steep. During warmer days there is a lot of sun exposure. what else can I say, it's hard and that why I hiked it! I forgot to turn off my GPS when I got to my car, sorry All Trails.

The first 2 miles are fine after that the trail is all grown over. Extremely rough to hike. Shins will get all cut up pushing through the thick brush. Trail is not maintained. Would not recommend this trail.

The trail up is easy to follow. It’s steep and there’s no shade but the trail is well worn up to where the ridge finally flattens out a little - An 1800 foot elevation gain. I made a loop back down on the ridge just to the south. It was pretty - and shady - but tough going. Lots of bushwhacking so I can’t recommend it unless you don’t mind that sort of thing.

Aptly named... very difficult unless you have the athleticism of a wolverine. Trail is hard to follow once you reach the ridge, and completely disappears a mile later. Lost the trail on the way down and ended up bush whacking most of the way... Full sun the whole way, wear long pants and bring LOT'S of water.

First to Review

My buddy and I hiked up to Francis Peak via the Bair Canyon Trail in October of 2017. We attempted to take the Wolverine Ridge Trail back down. Like others have said here, the trail is pretty much gone after a mile or so from the top. We ended up losing the trail at the ridge and scrambling through the scrub oak and brush to the bottom of the canyon to the South of the ridge, trying to find a trail. We ended up getting stuck on a rock outcrop in the canyon, and Davis County Sheriff ended up sending a chopper up to pick us up, about a mile or so from the bottom. Long story short, this trail isn't really "existent" in any meaningful way. You can easily get lost in the scrub oak, and not be able to find your way up or down. Stay off this one unless you are into that kind of stuff.
