This is a gorgeous hike! It was a little buggy in some places, so make sure you bring bug spray. The wildflowers, Aspen trees, and views on this trail are beautiful! I recommend staying to the left in the beginning when you get to the fork. The trail to the right is a little rocky and narrow.

Wife and I went with our 4 kids ages 3.5, 6, 8, and 10. All but the youngest did great! Absolutely beautiful scenery especially with the wild flowers in bloom. The steepness of the hike was almost too much for the littlest, which means it was still good exercise. The lake would be an awesome overnight camping spot for a young family.

Bring bug spray and water! Really fun with small side trails and plenty of shade, lots of families and youth groups though when we went midday on a Thursday

Absolutely gorgeous! The wildflowers are blooming, the snow capped mountains in the background, the little stream crossings, the little lake itself, the serene meadows, the jumping grasshoppers... it’s all just picturesque. The hike is steeper on one side of the loop (go right as you head up the loop to face the slope head on). I will be taking my family another time.

Absolutely gorgeous mountain and wildflower views! When you get to the fork, I recommend going right to go up. It’s much steeper to the right and is easier to climb than go down. We made the mistake of going left first and the descent was a bit much for young children. It was such a peaceful hike and only a few groups out today!

Pretty sweet trail through aspens to a nice little pond at the end. The trail goes around the pond. There are little places on the south side of the pond where you can sit and relax. Counterclockwise seems to be the easier way to get to the lake.

I mean? It’s pretty and a nice stroll. I guess I was just expecting more “wow” up at Willow Lake. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still in the mountains and love it. I saw three moose, that was fun. This is a great hike for the whole family, all ages welcome. It’s only uphill for the first 1/2 - 3/4 mile and then it’s just a nice flat stroll around the meadow and the lake. Lots of places to pull over and put up a hammock and read or chill.

Sometimes you just have to take a trail that isn’t on the map... and jog back down the highway!

Fine hike. Facing south, so warmer. Walking around the "lake" is leisurely. But the trails can get slightly steep and rocky getting up. Many kids on trail, so it can get crowded. Routes have been reconstructed lately so the trailheads are not always clear.

My GPS told me this trail was on the right side of the road (going East) but it was actually on the left. There’s a rock with a placard and you head UP, in case you make the same mistake. The first 15 minutes (going counterclockwise) are steep and rocky, definitely intermediate! After you get to the meadow, though, it’s a nice easy stroll around the area. I thought Willow Lake was overgrown, but if you’re going right you don’t see the water until the very end of the loop. If you want a little easier walk (though longer), take the left trail up and down. It’s a tad less steep. You do cross the stream a few times, so plan carefully if you go right after a storm or in early spring with the snow melt. I was up here about 6:20 am, and there were cars parked on the road but no actual walkers. Lots of tents around the lake, but everyone was still asleep. Totally worth getting up early! The plants were still damp so wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet. It was also 20 degrees cooler than the city— about 45-50 compared to 70– so a jacket was welcome.

Great views, and scenery for a relatively short hike! The elevation is difficult at the beginning but levels off after about 0.8 miles or less and the rest is smooth sailing. Definitely recommend.

Real nice and quick hike, the elevation gain is definitely more than the 636 ft. that the app estimates though, but still easy. Fairly shaded almost the entire hike. Didn’t see too much wildlife today other than a bunch of squirrels, and a family of ducks. The trail was pretty busy even at 8am when I got there but, people as well as myself, were kind enough to make way. So if you’re practicing social distancing, I don’t think that there is much of an issue with that.

Beautiful hike. The trail to the right is a bit rocky for the first bit, but it gets better. The lake isn’t really a lake- more of a pond but the trees all over are beautiful. Our 5 year old hiked it just fine.

Beautiful trail, there are aspen trees and wildflowers lining the whole route and amazing mountain views at the top. We saw a lot of wildlife around the lake and surprisingly, not a lot of people. The trail is generally well maintained but can be pretty loose and rocky at some points.

Went up and took the west side trail up to the lake. Went around the lake and down the east side trail back to the car. Shaded the majority of the way. Trail up is easier in the west side than the East. Beautiful around sunset with the light coming across the trees and lake.

This trail has never been more crowded with people. There were at least 40-50 people heading up while we were heading down. People, please limit your groups to around 10. Be respectful of other people and don’t crowd and take over these spaces. The trail is beautiful and can be enjoyed when not full of so many people.

Beautiful hike! The first part is a little rocky and steep and kicked my butt a little. but once my friend reminded me it wasn't a race and to slow down and enjoy the views it became much easier. The lake is nice, smaller than I thought it would be, but the actual trails and scenery is breathtaking. Very fun hike.
