Very sandy. When in doubt go higher. If you come to a dead end backtrack and go higher. 1 part you have to actually semi rock climb/grab ledges and pull yourself up.

6/21/20 First time in the area. It was an amazing hike, accessible while the park is closed. And with a friend who is a guy in the area. I definitely recommend it.

We stopped at the first waterfall and clocked 5.6 miles, so I agree with everyone else that the entire trail is much longer. Lovely hike. Definitely dunk your hat, buff, shirt, whatever in the stream as it helps with the heat. There is shade and breeze but it’s very warm in the sun (and it was 75 degrees out during our hike). You want closed toed shoes unless you love sand all over your feet. We still ended up with socks and shoes coated with sand, without taking them off. AllTrails map does not exactly line up with trail, just stick to the widest path and you’ll get there. Multiple families brought 20+ children and completely took over the lower section, which ruined the solitude. If we did this hike again we would go earlier in the morning (rather than setting out ~11:30am) or mid afternoon to hopefully avoid the crowd.

This was the hardest hike I have ever been on. Far harder than the 14ers I’ve done in Colorado. It is extremely steep with a ton of climbing/bouldering involved. Additionally, it was extremely hard to follow the trail. We somehow missed a turn and ended in a canyon and had to scale our way up the wall to get back on the trail. On the way back, the downloaded map and compass saved our lives and we still struggled with finding/staying on trail. As others mentioned, I would say the trail is more like 8+ miles. With all the cautionary info, I also want it to be known that the waterfall and river (1 mile in) were AMAZING and the views at the top were great too. Bring lots of water or a water purifier. We ran out of water and had a combined total of 7 liters (3 people). A sun shirt to dip in the water will save your life too. Good luck!

Great trail! - One of the most scenic I’ve been on in the area and not busy at all. When you climb up the first “waterfall” spot, you can do an S-turn to climb up higher - which is where it appears to dead end (most folks seemed to turn back here); however, you can climb up the rocks and relocate the trail on the left, which will take you up the rest of the way for even more beautiful views. Note: this trail is beach sand for the first half of it, then turns to a more padded down / rocky terrain.

Super fun little trail - every bit as beautiful as Zion without all the madness.

Nice hike, great view of the domes at the top! Use the map from AllTrails because the markings are not clear

Went up the initial trail and then over the Canaan Mountain. Hike up the valley is very cool, fun hike. We dropped our bags by the White Domes and then just took water up towards Canaan - you get amazing views of Zion and back into the valley - very worth the extra part. Camped out back by the White Domes and then planning to loop back with Squirrel and the Beehive. Can make it into a nice 2 day hike this way. Not very crowded and good to be away from more people at Zion, only really a few people at the start.

Did this trail today. But was unable to complete it. After the falls, I followed the trail up and to the left. Went up a bit, but it just seemed to deadend. Got to the point where footprints follow each side of the mountain coming down in the middle. But, they didn't go anywhere. Tried going up the middle, but failed to climb over the rock on the edge. There is a step, but unless you are a rock climber. There are no handholds to get up and over it. One would thing they would have made this easier to overcome. I am a 37 year old adventurist, and I was forced to turn around. Anyone who has done this, please comment. Would love to go back up again, when it is cooler and the falls are a bit bigger. 3 Stars for having to turn around

Beautiful views, and the dog loved it too!

Loved this. Went straight up the stream and made our own way instead of being on the path. Didn’t wear water shoes, feet got soaked but the water felt good in these very hot temps in late May. Brought our small dog and she loved it. Water is freezing but keeps dog from overheating so it’s very nice to have nearby even if not on stream. We found some cool hidden gem spots of little beach areas. Plenty of shade. Would definitely return here. Awesome spot

So happy I did (and finished) this trail, it is so beautiful! It is closer to 8.5 miles and the trail is pretty difficult to find for the last 2ish miles to White Dome. Wouldn’t have done it without downloading the trail map on AllTrails or Gaia. Also, use grippy shoes as you are climbing up steep rock at the end.

The waterfalls on this trail are amazing. Don’t be afraid to take your shoes off and enjoy the sand and water.

One of my favorite hikes and we plan to go back for some backpacking. Gaining altitude was a challenge, and the trail dissipates at times, but it is generally findable. Definitely worth doing the whole thing, which is actually approximately 8 miles! I downloaded the map and kept checking our GPS location, so know we did not stray from it.

Gorgeous hike, easy to the waterfall, good climb and many drop offs at until top rock, and gorgeous scenary past that. The trail does disappear past top rock. Head north west and hug the stream you'll quickly run into. The stream will join up with the main river (that creates the waterfall) at which point you should hug the main river (going upsteam). This won't always be possible, in which cases try to stay close and just climb up on the rock on the side. Once you get pretty far up river there's a fork (sand bed to the right and main river to the left). Go to the right and it's a straight shot to the white domes. No clue where the actual trail was. I followed this advice while trying to minimize stepping on non rock and got there in 4.5 hrs (lots of meandering bc we didn't know exactly where to go). 2 hours coming back (got lost here was well some). I would recommend a detailed map and compass if possible for this one. Easy to get very lost.

The fun begins one you get past the waterfall. The trail ascends the cliff face on the left, and the whole way up to Top Rock is steep and difficult. There is no real trail past Top Rock. To get to White Domes you drop down into a wash that heads NW, then scramble up the slick rock. If you continue N past the domes, you'll hit a sandy 2-track. I headed W on this trail and eventually stopped at "The Notch" which is a pretty incredible viewpoint. It took 4 hours to get to this spot, and i had about 4 1/2 hours of daylight left, so i turned around and followed the 2-track back down through Squirrel Canyon. Saw tracks from a good sized mountain lion for almost a mile down the sandy 2-track! A very long day, but an incredible hike. My GPS tracking got a bit confused when in was down in Water Canyon. Recording indicates 17 miles, but actual total was just under 16. You definitely need a good GPS and map and know how to use them! A shout out to the nice folks from the Roads Scholar group that were kind enough to let me pass them, twice!

May be my favorite trail. Absolutely beautiful and lightly trafficked. Look for the stone arch, old log by the waterfall, and precarious hoodoos :).

Early morning is the best time to make this beautiful trek. Some rock scrambling is needed and leashed dogs are permitted, but leave the geriatric pups at home. Several places to water dogs, but pack plenty just in case. We went in at least 2 miles; would have loved to see more, if time allowed. Highly recommend.

After you get to the waterfall, the trail gets very sketchy and confusing. If you attempt to make it to white domes, stay to the left. The right is the canyoning trail where they repel down. We turned back once we got to the top rock. We talked to a ranger that warned us it gets confusing and some people get lost on Mesa and wander around for days. If you attempt white domes make sure you research where the trail is and be prepared to scramble and climb.

There seems to be a ton of confusion about the length of this trail and where it actually ends. We hiked to the Waterfall canyon and followed onto the rest of the trail via All Trails map...when we got to the top of the Mesa (spectacular summit) the trail became unclear and confusing... according to the trail map, after 2 hours of straight rigorous tough hiking we were only half way! The map said we had 3 more miles to go to reach the end... that would have been, in and out, a 12 mile hike! We we ended up losing the trail and even getting lost a bit. And decided to turn back after reaching the Mesa summit. The rest of the hike will have to remain a mystery. I recommend hiking to the waterfall and that’s it... meditate, take a nap, read a book, and enjoy that beautiful canyon.
