From Evanston, take the Mirror Lake Highway (highway 150( about 40 miles to an old, unmarked dirt road on the west side of the road just past a sign marking Gold Hill Road. Follow the road a short distance, staying to the right when it forks. Find a flat spot to park

First of all there is no sign off of mirror lake highway saying gold hill road. And gold hill road does not take you remotely close to whisky island lake. It will leave you 10 miles away without a trail. The GPS coordinates are the only reason I was able to find it. The description is misleading. There is another dirt road about 8 miles south of gold hill road that you can access via 4x4, though it is pretty intense. Beautiful lake though.
