Ready trail in, harder trail out. We couldn't find a trail or sign leading the way to the lake when we got close so we went off trail a short distance to get there. We hiked to many of the area lakes with some difficulty bushwacking and bouldering. The hardest to get to lakes had better fishing but overall the fishing was good. The views were amazing and the wildflowers were in full bloom. Great trip. Will return for an extended trip into Garfield Basis next time.

Swasey Lake is a great lake to fish and camp. After you followed the main trial about 4 miles and dropped off a mountain into Swasey Hole, You'll hike about a mile before you cut off the main trail and try to bush wack your way to Swasey Lake. The map on this website is very incorrect and you can't download the GPX file because you have to get a "Pro Account", I made a trail map on the App/website called "Trail Forks" and tried my best to navigate off the main trail without a ton of bush waking ( https://www.trailforks.com/trails/swasey-lake-trail/) AND/OR You can download the free .GPX file from my Dropbox if you need it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1tx1m4ndvuylgft/Swasey%20Lake%20Trail.gpx?dl=0( **A Highly recommend is to bring a ton of Deet, Bug Spray, and/or a thermocell , the mosquitoes are waiting for a feast** Be aware that you'll have some hard time finding some firewood around the area and making a fire during the monsoon season (mid-July and ends in mid-September, mostly starts in the afternoon).

Lost the trail a couple times. And there isn't a well marked trail for almost the last mile. You just have to cut west following the stream (on the north side) after crossing the second little bridge. I'm glad my Dad was there to guide us since he's been there before. AMAZING fishing. 10-12 inch Cutthroat and Brook Trout. We were catching them with lures on about every third cast.

Beautiful hike but you can’t find a trail to cut over to swasey lakes from the main trail. Had to bush wack. It actually ended up being just under 14 miles out and back and that was just to the first little lake.
