About 6 inches to a foot of snow from Lake Mary on. slippery at times. but the view is overall worth it.
I love this hike. It is very crowded on the weekends, but it is what it is. Once you get up the Catherine Pass portion, there are endless places to go! Trails everywhere; amazing views. We did see some kids at the top but I would not say this is kid-friendly. We left ours at home.
Spectacular views of all three Lakes from the Summit. You can also see Devils Castle off in the Distance among others. Really liked this hike. It was a good distance and not very steep yet still uphill. Saw a moderate amount of people but trail is wide enough to distance. All in all super cool, with many options.
9.7.20 - the lakes were very clear and gorgeous to see. not sure what level they are normally at as this is the first time seeing them. we started our hike at 815am, had at least 50 people a head of us on the hike before that either we passed or came down past us. on our way down we passed 250-300 more people which was around 11am. take that what you will.
Went early, it wasn’t very crowded but there were people. It was a good day for a hike with a soft cold rain sneaking in at peak time. It’s lower in the moderate side up to the Lake Catherine. But from there to Catherine Pass, Sunset Trail and the peak, there were fair momenta of decent incline. The lakes have drained a but from my last visit a month ago, but it was still a nice hike. I like going around Lake Catherine so my recording was off trail for a bit. This is one of my favorites.
Started bright and early this morning. Within minutes we ran across a bull moose, a mother moose and her baby. We also saw a porcupine, badger, deer, and lots of fish jumping at Lake Catherine. This hike was full of beautiful views, especially at the top of Sunset Peak. A great end to our summer hiking!
Started up at 740 and got to the top at 852am. Down by 1020am after spending time on the time and giving folks who were coming up the right of way. In good shape. Went on Friday morning. Tons of folks. Counted about 50 groups! Not many at all had masks on. The peak and hike were nice but honestly way too many people for my covid comfort level.
Loved this hike! Did this today and saw gorgeous wild flowers and views the entire time. It was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday evening, but even so, I’d highly recommend this hike. My friend recorded the hike from the parking lot to the top of the peak (and back). she recorded 7.2miles with 2hrs and 42min total time.
If you don’t like heights, maybe don’t go to the top of the peak lol. There were 4 moose at The 2nd lake
Well I can't say this was my favorite hike ever, but I will say it's my favorite hike outside of SLC (08/01/20) out of two hikes! Haha So I ended up hiking all the way to Sunset Peak as I had no clue as to which lake was Lake Catherine (not clearly marked), but I'm so glad I continued to the top. Needed up at the top of the peak at 10,590ft of elevation, so I believe the elevation gain is pretty nice up. • It was crowded around 11:00am, but if you get there around 7:00-8:00am then you'll beat most of the crowds. • There's shade in the middle of the hike, but at the beginning and end (up to Sunset Peak) there isn't much. • Wildlife is everywhere. I did end up seeing moose at one of the lakes. Pretty cool. • Do bring water and make sure you're drinking going up. I am a professional athlete and I went through a lot of water (need to stay hydrated so the body functions extremely well). • Great hike nonetheless! Just do it!
Left around 6:45pm in the evening and made it to the top in plenty of time for the sunset. The wildflowers are in bloom and there was surprisingly not very many crowds for being Pioneer Day. We finished around 10 and needed headlamps for the last mile or so. A beautiful hike!
