Beautiful trip in July! The loop on the north to the cliff face is the best. I rode with my 2.5 year old and “Grandpa”, so it’s good for family. 4-wheelers has no problem, 4WD not needed. From the highway there are several miles of well graded dirt road, but not long before all the campers park and it’s a good jeep road. My rating is an easy moderate for ATV, moderate for SUV/truck, and very difficult for a Subaru (don’t do that). There is a $6 fee.

Fun trail, but had to turn around when we came across a fallen tree. There was probably another way around, but we did not have time to look.

This was a nice cool reprieve from the heat in the Salt Lake Valley. Would not categorize this as a moderate OHV trail. It is easily manageable with a truck or even a car. The mountain flowers were in bloom and beautiful. Lots of options for camping as well.

I did the first 12 miles of the loop and it was amazing!!! We went and completed the first loop with the 1000 foot cliffs.... we brought a lunch and made it a simple day trip... it was terrific but after the first 3-4 miles you need a 4x4 for sure.... the Taco did great! Moderate is a good ranking... not too hard even for beginners.

Nice groomed dirt road, but it has a couple of tight turns(watch for 2-way traffic). When you come off Mirror Lake Hwy (15) onto Soapstone Basin Road (414), you can continue of 414 for many miles until you come to a fork with a faded sign. Iron Mtn Lake to your right (414) and Beaver Creek, left. Left is a bit rocky and there were some muddy spots. Right is beautiful sightseeing. If you choose right towards the lake, turn left on 979 for a lily pond - it's not far off 414 and I highly recommend it for pictures! Get back on 414 (turn left), and you'll find a sign post 414 or 414a. 414 is Iron Mtn Lake (beautiful!). You can go around the top part of the lake bu taking 414a for a different view. We have a 2019 stock Wrangler Sport and had no difficulty at all with these trails.

We drove atv's from parking area at soapstone basin until you get to Iron mine lake. First half of a mile you are on pavement then graded dirt road that a car could drive for the next 5 miles. After you fork to go toward mill hollow or keep going straight toward the lake it gets rocky the rest of the way and slows you down significantly. We went through two flooded areas that were about a foot deep at its deepest, their span was about 20 feet across. Best parts of the trail! Finally when you arrive at the lake you are greeted with a serene untouched mountain lake with lillies and a large meadow. It is quiet and beautiful. We turned back to the parking area whole trip was about 4 hours. Great for going somewhere new to you.
