Hiking

Headed out just as the rain stopped and skies cleared. Still plenty of traction for the tires and almost nobody on the trail

Go earlier in the day, it gets very hot on the trail. Bring water! Beautiful views and a great workout.

Just did the practice loop. Would say it’s moderate + to hard with steeper downhill. Very beautiful views

Loop was much harder that I remembered but the last time I was a lot younger. I had to walk the mountain bike a lot.

I MTB this trail. As others say it is not a beginners trail. Beginners can do it basically because it is short and very sweet with great views. Gives you a taste of what 10 miles of Slickrock will be like. 10 feels a whole lot different than 2. Worth it just to know what you are getting into. Have fun.

Mountain bikingGreat!

Great short trail. It’s not a beginners trail, and not for all ages, especially if it’s hot, was 37c/98f when we rode it. Was brilliant at sunset with my 11 year old son who’s done many difficult rides, was enough to get a taste of the bigger ride.

When they say “Slickrock Practice Loop” they mean practice loop. They do not mean beginner’s loop. Also do not let your 60 year old father tell you that the practice loop is for “never evers.” As a beginner I did the trail for the experience rather than expecting to send the entire thing without stepping off and I don’t regret it.

Awesome trail! Total is 10.2 miles if you include the practice loop. Only took about 4 hours (walking) and I stopped a few times to enjoy the scenery. I was the only hiker on the trail and comfortably stayed far from the path to give bikers plenty of room. Definitely recommend. Gorgeous views. Be sure to bring plenty of water.

I would not consider this easy but rather technical. However it is beautiful and short.

Running

Quiet Tuesday morning in February for trail running, ran up from downtown Moab. Trails were empty, just a handful of cyclists out. The slick rock was fun to run on - as an east coast guy never run on smooth rock like this before before. Super fun, flowy, scenic. Of note, the Sand Flat web site seems to imply you can only hike on a few trails, but a sign at the entrance says all trails are open to hiking? Good time all around.
