Getting There

Every serious Mountain Biker from around the world, knows, or has heard about the famous and notorious Slickrock Trail in Moab. It was this trail that put Moab on the map, and turned Moab into a mountain biking mecca that brings 1000's of mountain bikers from around the globe to Moab. The Slickrock Trail is VERY well marked with painted white lines like the middle of a highway, and there are yellow caution markers and black diamonds to warn you of deadly sections ahead. Be sure to watch for these warnings after you hit the main loop at mile 2.5. Hills on the trail are short, but grueling and very steep. If you let you momentum carry you it could get you into trouble on twisty sections with off-camber turns, but mostly it is momentum that will allow you to ride up the really steep stuff. Traction is fantastic, except when wet or icy. Watch out for winter! Trail Surface: slickrock, obviously, with a painted white line guiding you into the most outrageous situations. At times it is like riding on the outside edge of a 300-foot high basketball. There is a fee of $5/vehicle or $2/bike to enter Sand Flats Recreation Area. Please leave your dogs home as their paws have a hard time on the rock. Trail is also open to motorcycles and sees a lot of traffic.

Large parking with a bathroom but no water

The Slickrock Trail begins on the Sand Flats Road, reached by turning left off Moab's main drag onto 300 South, then right when the road ends, then second left. From the entry gate (where you pay your fee), drive about 0.6 mile. You'll see a large parking lot on the left, with bathrooms (but no water.)

Long enough, crosses with the Jeeps from Hell's revenge which is kind of awesome. plenty of motorcycles in your way. it's a bit troublesome.

This trail is definitely a workout, but well worth it. I didn't think it was technically difficult but it was physically very challenging. Lots of steep uphills and don't be surprised when you end up walking up a few of them (I think most people have to). That being said, it's a very cool, unique trail with great scenery. Just rode this trail yesterday and there were only ~4 places I didn't feel comfortable going up/down because of the snow and ice cover.

Demanding rollercoaster ride, buckle up. You'll be shifting gears constantly and using brakes quite a bit so make sure your equipment is in great shape. Bring extra water and energy bars, snacks. That said, it's an amazingly rewarding and fun trail!! Do the practice loop first, you'll be glad you did.

Mountain bikingGreat!

Vault toilets stank so bad. Nauseating to be in the parking lot. We got there early and had the trail go ourself. People were sleeping on the picnic tables in the parking lot. It’s a killer bike trail. Didn’t make it far

Yes, it's known as a famous mountain biking trail, but I had a blast hiking/trail running it. The vibe is "adult playground" and the scenery is terrific. Highly recommend.

This is gorgeous. I trail ran it to shrimp rock from the right fork and it was 7 miles out and back. My guess is the whole trail is more like 11 or 12 than 8.9 round.

HIKING REVIEW: Although most people use Slickrock for biking, it is incredible for hiking as well! We did the entire loop on foot and it was like a giant playground. If you have shoes with good traction, you can easily climb the rocks — the traction feels like you are on a hard tennis court. It is challenging in places but the payoffs are insane. You pass unbelievable rock formations and once you get up high you have breathtaking views of the Colorado and green rivers. Every direction you look is stunning. If you will be hiking the whole loop, bring at least 2.5 liters of water each (you will drain every drop), and be conscious of your temperature in the direct sun. Yield to the bikers! Will be back many times for this one. Loved it!

Fun trail, with amazing views throughout. Over the course of the whole loop you will get 360 degree views of the area, including Arches NP. I recommend going with your ride ending near sunset, as the lighting+scenery is amazing. I saw some locals riding some ebikes on this trail, and it definitely would be a great ebike trail due to some of the steep climbs. That extra bit of energy would be very helpful in getting up some of the steep areas. I believe motos can ride this trail although I think it may be rare that you will see them. The only downside to this trail is that it crosses very sandy washes at certain points, which can really throw you off if you are going fast, or will completely stop you if you are not going fast enough. The wash areas are very short though, so not a big deal.

This was physically the hardest thing my body has ever done due to a lack of water. Bring LOTS of it; you’ll sweat it all out. Luckily it rained towards the end, fueling my spirit. Insane! Expect to hike with your bike a moderate amount unless you are very tough.

Beautiful scenery and a very fun ride. As one of my first rides after buying a mountain bike I was a bit nervous to try Slick Rock but it was a ton of fun. Had to walk my bike up some of the steep but short climbs. Make sure to check your bike every so often. Lot of rattling on this trail and about 4 miles in my front tire was loose.
