Getting There

Sand Dune Arch Trail leads through deep sand to a secluded arch among sandstone fins. Don't miss this stop, good for children. Easy hike from the parking area into a small slot canyon, but you can spend longer to explore the surrounding area. Between the sandstone fins is like a sandy beach leading up to Sand Dune Arch. There are places to explore along the way. To the left just after you go under the arch, there is a small ledge where you can climb up leading behind the arch. Slightly technical and might need help to get up from that spot. On the return to your car consider taking a hike to Broken Arch, about a mile northeast through some open flatland - watch for snakes. Look closely at the arch - the image on the left is maybe an eagle or a raven... and the image on the left might be a dog...

Parking at the Trailhead, facilities further up the road at Devil's Garden area.

Very short trail but the arch is pretty cool inside the rock walls.

We went around 5 pm with the kids and it was beautiful and so fun for them. The whole thing is shaded once you walk the 3ish minutes to get into the slot canyon, and we brought sand toys for the kids to play with. My 3-year-old loved it and it was great to get out of the heat.

Would be great if you wanted something short and easy to take shoes off to walk in the sand. Does have shade!

Amazing what you get out of this short hike (that my 84 yo aunt completed). Start off with a Typical desert trail, heading through narrow sand stone walls into a sand wash slightly up grade to a small but beautiful arch for some memorable photo ops. All in about 1/2 mile round trip.

Incredible reprieve from the heat as you walk across sand in the shade between sand stone walls. Very short hike with a small arch to see.

HikingGreat!No shade

my friends and I were here on Saturday, August 15th, and it was awesome. I had been before several years ago and it was just as beautiful as I remember. Not really considered a "hike" as you park and walk to the trail which is about .7. The sand allows a little more work from the legs, but nothing too wild. The arch once you walk inside the sand dune is a great picture opportunity. My friends and I arrived around 8:30 and there was no one around. We beat the heat and had the place all to ourselves for a little while. If you're looking to walk around a little more, you can walk from sand dune arch to broken arches. No shade during this walk, so make sure you have your water with you. If you don't want to walk, you can hop back in your car and drive to Broken Arch trailhead and walk to see it. Keep in mind its all sand on the trail. saw lots of families on this one. good for kids. Happy hiking!

WAY easy to get to. Less than 10 minute walk. Did in a loop with Tapestry Arch and Broken Arch but in hindsight we should’ve done this one then driven up the road a bit to the other 2. If you do them all as a loop, it requires you to walk across the large sandy field 2x.

This is a short and sandy trail to a cool arch. We did it during the heat of the day because there were some spots in the shade. Great for little kids.

Super crowded, but very doable “hike”. Just like walking on the beach, but between narrow stone walls. Beautiful rock formations and arch. Great opportunity for kids and teens to climb and enjoy.

Recommended for the hottest part of the day because it's pretty much entirely shaded. It's like a playground, small area to hike but fun nooks and crannies to explore. Very sandy and lots of rocks to climb around. It's like a slot canyon - good for kids

This little arch is not as grand as some of the others, but it’s one of my favorites in the park by far!

Nice late morning hike shaded from the sun. The adventurous can hike further and scramble up some rocks. Teenagers didn’t complain, so that says a lot.

Nothing too exciting here - especially if you’re exploring the other arches in the park. Super short hike though so even if you wander through, it won’t take much of your time.

LOVED it! We got there at 7:15 am and had it to ourselves for 30 min. The weather was cool and shaded. The sand is so soft and we got gorgeous photos since it was empty except for our family. Worth getting up early!!! Perfect for young kids! We did broken arch immediately afterwards.
