Best way to see Rainbow and Yovimpa, and the Bristlecone trail gets you away from the tourists a little bit. Also there are some great views at unmarked spots along the loop.

Took a detour off Bristlecone Loop to hike on top of a mountain (no "keep away" signs). The loop itself was full of blackened trees with scorched branches-or what was left of them- so we backtracked and trekked up a paved part if the trail to Yovimpa Point, which was nice.

Why are you not showing this as closed? The road past Natural Bridge is closed due to fire!

Nice walk on a good packed in trail. At points you get some good views. Pretty windy out at the south point on the trail.

this would be the preferred way to see the easy parts of what the Rainbow Point area has to offer - park in the Rainbow Point parking lot, and walk the paved trail first to Yovimpa Point. then, halfway back to the parking lot, hang a right onto the unpaved Bristlecone Trail. follow Bristlecone Trail around the Viewpoint and past the Nature Shelter back towards the lot, but when you see the sign for Riggs Spring / Under The Rim Trail, hang a right, then go left at the Y shaped intersection. walk out onto the Red Ridge (caution, steep dropoffs both sides), and turn around when the trail goes from fairly level and exposed, to downhill and into the trees. finally, walk back past the Rainbow Point Shelter to Rainbow Point, and back to your vehicle.
