I combined this trail with Erickson Basin tying the two together with the Big Elk Lake Rout (not listed) to form a loop. I went up over a busy holiday weekend and found lots of solitude. The trail over is easy to follow however coming out of Big Elk Lake took some route finding until I cleared the trees.
Expect Island Lake to be busy any summer weekend. The Smith Morehouse side to be quiet.
