Hiked to Mowhawk Lake July 9-10. Mowhawk is a beautiful Uinta lake. I ended up camping at Betsy Lake. I found better sites at Betsy and it's a short hike to Mowhawk from there. As everyone is saying the mosquitoes are plentiful.

I backpacked in and spent one night at Mohawk Lake, logging a little over 5 miles one way. The trail itself is not terribly difficult, a bit rocky in some place, a couple of muddy sections, and sometimes a bit dusty. The elevation and the added weight of a pack did slow me down a bit. The lake location itself is beautiful! My group was able to find a nice location for a communal fire and plenty of room for camping. Make sure to take bug spray as the mosquitoes are out in full force.

Nice hike, the trail did not follow the red line on this map though so it will say you're off route thru the entire hike just an fyi. Also, Lots of mosquitos. We backpacked and stayed one night at mohawk which was great except for all the mosquitos.

The lake was lovely! A lot of mosquitoes are out now so be sure to put on off spray. The trail isn’t difficult if I weren’t backpacking but the added weight can make it difficult due to the rocks/sand within the trail.

The hike up was great. I've been hardcore in the past but I'm 40 now and backpacking trips are getting less frequent. This hike wasn't too short yet long enough to be enjoyable. I brought my wife too for her first backpacking in her life! I won't say how old she is but she liked it and is looking forward to a day hike tomorrow without a backpack on her back.

It's always nice to get into the Grandaddy Lake basin. The scenery was of course beautiful and the temperatures nice and cool. The trail is rocky like all Uinta trails, but not too bad. Generally in great shape with no obstacles and easy to follow. The hike over the summit was not too strenuous, but I passed several struggling scout troops heading in for one last summer campout. Bugs were not bad. This is always a great hike into the Uinta Mountains.

Absolutely beautiful. Mosquitoes were not as bad as we were expecting. Fishing was phenomenal at Grandaddy Lake. Pretty easy hike.

The Grandaddy basin is a great spot! We go every year. The fishing is great! I will say though in July, bring the heavy duty bug spray. The mosquitoes have hatched and are all over. Same with flies. They are the worst in the morning and evening. Daytime is ok.
