A nice moderate unmaintained trail on the East side of Zion, especially in winter when many other canyons and trails are full of snow and ice. Many Pools offers the beginner hiker (and family) a glimpse into how wind and water create slot canyons. Sometimes this hike is referred to as the "East Root Canal" because of the shape on a topographical map. Park at the parking area with the portable toilets. Cross the road and walk up it (northeast) until a faint trail descends to the wash bottom. Go as far as you like. There are several dryfalls, but all have routes around them, usually to the left. The canyon is generally open and sunny; there is not a real slot canyon until over a mile up. If you continue up around the slot section, you can (after much bushwacking) climb out of the canyon and connect with the Deertrap Mountain Trail, but this upper portion of the trail is strenuous and not for beginners or families.

Great hike! Even on a busy Memorial Day weekend we only saw one other group (although the parking lot was full?). You can also take a trail that goes to the right after the parking lot to the East and it cuts in a cool tunnel under the road! We found it on our way back out. It was a temperate day with a nice breeze but no shade so I would not do this on a hot day with no recent rain. Unfortunately most of the pools were almost gone so just tadpoles and nasty water but we will definitely go back if there was more water!

Great trail for my wife and I and our 5 kids (Ages: 11,9,7,4,2). We explored all the way up and down. Still plenty of water holes.

Only a few of the pools were full (May 2020) but still worth the hike. Only went about halfway and turned back. Stunning views.

Perfect weather and a perfect hike for a family. Plenty of water coming through made for a lot of great pools.

Awesome Trail. We went in March when the many pools were filled with water. The landscape is full of incredible geology and if you’re lucky you’ll run into the sheep. Not as many people on this trail compared to the trails in the Zion valley. I would say this is one of the more underrated trails/areas of the park. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed this hike. There is not a marked trail, you just follow the water up the Canyon. It was not very crowded, we passed a few people in the beginning, but did not see anyone once we passed the halfway mark. Lots of path finding and a moderate climb. Amazing how the canyon changes as you get higher.

Saw one family on the trail, otherwise it was nice to have it all to ourselves. No actual trail - used the AllTrails tracker to make sure we didn’t get lost. Beautiful views for such a crowd less trail.

Not much water there in mid-February, but gorgeous rock formations. Can't wait to go back when the water is higher.

Great trail very dry right now but incredible views. Well worth doing. When you park if you go to the right and go up the river bottom from there you can go through the tunnel that takes you under the road then continue up to the pools

Great short trail! Not really well marked but easy to follow the path of the water and plenty of footsteps too. One or two photogenic pools and some great views of Deertrap Mtn about half way in. Didn’t go to the very end, just the alcove. Very quiet and peaceful. No shade.

Not really a trail, but it’s easy to tell where you need to go. Not crowded at all and some cool features made it a nice hike. Saw a large group of big horn sheep as well. Overall nice short hike.

Great little trail with nany, many pools as advertised. Definitely a great hike with awesome scenery that is not at all crowded. We only saw one other person this entire hike.

Hands down, the best dead-of-winter hike in the park! Sunny, very little snow, and absolutely beautiful. Water was actually flowing in the middle, which is rare for the many times I've hiked it. I actually saw 4 other groups during my 2 hours here, which is more than any other East Zion canyons, but still much better than the zoo down in the main canyon. Unfortunately, the slot canyon up at the top (and the bypass route) had too much snow to be any fun.
